Honda has the potential to do some interesting things with hybridization of its currently lineup. Mild hybrids that assist gas powered turbo engines in the form of electric turbo charging, small power gains without a loss of fuel economy, e-AWD similar to what is offered on Acura models, etc etc is promising. Imagine a future mild hybrid civic that can churn out 200+ horsepower with an electrically assisted turbo 1.5 but still net 40-50mpg while keeping the price of the actual vehicle reasonable for most buyers, even better if offered with e-AWD as an option.

Electric cars are awesome, and honda has definitely fallen behind in that regard, the cute retro Urban EV is very cool... but lacks the range and power of most direct competitors, and being RWD means it potentially restricts its use in places with poor winter conditions that FWD and AWD do better in.

Also... as someone who lives in an apartment building... where exactly does someone like me plug an EV in to charge? Am i supposed to waste hours of my time every week taking it to a charging station that takes 5-8 hours to charge the battery to full? I know the technology is improving, but charging times need to come way down before EVs will have mass appeal to the majority of people that don't have a way to charge at home, as well as added infrastructure of charging stations. And of course the overall cost of the EVs themselves.

I've long been a cheerleader for hydrogen cars because they readily offer faster fueling, similar or better power/range to gas engines. And with hydrogen capable of being produced on site, on demand it seems like the much easier route for most people to adapt to readily... but again, the tech, price, availability needs to improve before that can happen.

As for honda's next EV project... if they plan on bringing it to the USA (they seem more focused on europe/asia currently) a small crossover would do well given sales trends, if not at least a mid size car.

Give me an electrically assisted turbo in my present Si, and I would consider it perfect.
