Any update on this? Did it happen again?

I haven't seen this issue since the one time it happened to me.
Nope, I started the car up Tuesday for the first time since it happened and the problem was gone, and it's been fine every day since. So I didn't bother calling the dealer since I wouldn't have anything to show them. IF it happens again, hopefully it'll be at a time where I can just bring it straight to the dealer.

I checked the paperwork from the cluster replacement in my Si. Turns out the issues did *not* reproduce for the techs the next day. However since the service writer had documented what he saw, the techs reached out to their support channel with Honda and were told to change out the cluster.

I'll try to capture the write-up in case it helps other owners with this issue.

Mine just did this. Went into a convenience store and everything was fine. When I come back to the car, it starts up but the gauges are dark and the red LED is blinking brightly in the lower left corner. No side gauges at all. Center screen is dim but I can see speedometer enough. No turn signals. No AC, though control screen in center is functioning. Steering wheel controls also don't function. Can't open trunk regardless of what I try. Car locks and unlocks normally otherwise.

Noticed there was no startup animation on instrument cluster when I started it up. And when I tried to turn the engine off, the start/stop button just pulses. I held it down for a few seconds to get it to shut off.

I was on my way to my daughters 4H event not far from home when it happened. So I'm hoping it will reset while it sits in the parking lot. If not, I'll pull the battery cable when I get home. Either way, I'll call the dealer today. I'll update when I know more.

Keep us updated dave. It would be nice if we can get a definitive answer as to what causes this. It only happened to me once and hasn't happened again. I'm hoping it was a one-time thing.

So, the car sat in the parking lot for about 1.5 hours. When I got back in to start it, everything had returned to normal. Instrument cluster animations, AC blowing cold, turn signals work, no Blinky red light... Took video of it too. So I don't know what the deal is.

I'm hoping it doesn't happen again, but think I'm going to tag Honda just in case they still want to have a look and at least document that I've had the issue.

Just had the exact same problem happen to me yesterday evening. Stopped at a store and when I got back I started the car and had all the same problems described in this thread, the alarm light blinking and the side gauges not working, only the rpm gauge was showing but the needle wasn't there and none of the steering wheel buttons worked, flashers were not displayed but actually working, could not open the trunk. When I got home it took a couple pushes of the push start to actually stop the car. I fiddled with the key fob locking and unlocking the car and it eventually returned to normal. Didn't even think to take a video though so I have nothing to show to the dealer so I don't think I'll bother taking it in unless it happens again.

I just had this happen to my car today. I was able to re-create the problem three different times in a row. When I got home I went inside and switched key fobs. I thought it was weird that when I open the door I could hear dinging as if I had left something on. I was able to start the car up and it worked fine. I wonder if it has anything to do with the key fob?

They didn’t make you pay did they? This happened to me on thanksgiving day. Of course couldn’t go to the dealer because they were closed but I did record it on my phone

Not to revive an old thread but I had this same thing happen to me today. On my way home from work I stopped briefly at a grocery store; when I went to leave (5-10 minutes later) I couldn't open my trunk. After giving up on the trunk I put my groceries in the back seat and started the car to leave when I noticed the cluster was dim. That's when I noticed a lot of little things (no signal lights on the dash, guide lines on backup cam weren't dynamic, AC wasn't working, etc), restarted three or four times before giving up and driving home.

After I got home I unloaded my groceries and when I opened the door it was making the tone like the lights were left on; I tried to start the car and it acted like nothing had happened, all lights were back, dynamic guidelines were working, and thankfully AC was good to go (my last cars AC killed my soul and almost my faith in Honda).

I wonder if it's related to shutting it off for a brief time and the backend doesn't have time to finish writing something to memory. Maybe it goes to write a status when it's shut down but due to some strange error it fails to write and some junk gets left in memory until it's off for a little bit longer.

This exact thing happened to me yesterday as well! Made a quick stop and got back in my car and no gas or temp lit up, dim speedometer which showed the mph but the tach needle wouldn’t move, no heater, but radio eventually powered up. No turn signals also. Took three quick presses to turn off motor. Waited an hour and got the chime as if the lights were on; however, started and everything was back to normal. I sure hope it’s gonna be a one time thing because I can’t imagine paying 1100.00 for a new gauge cluster and of course I am at 4 years 38,000 miles so I’m out of the basic warranty.

2017 Civic SI Sedan here...

Happy New Year Everyone!

Yea, I had a similar thing happen to me a few weeks back 2016 Civic Touring, got that all sorted with a battery reset via the dealer but now it's happening again albeit not an exact replica.

I couldn't get in the car with the keyfob so I manual key'd the door open, triggered the alarm, push to start to turn off said alarm noticed that the dashboard temp readout was just --- Farenheit. Then noticed that all my dash lights were on but my steering wheel lights and interior lights were off (it was night time). and just sitting there with the engine in park, the stuff that wasn't working would flicker on and off for a second then stay off. So I'm hoping this is some kind of fuse issue which i"ll check once the rain stops as I park on the street. Otherwise it's a return trip to the dealer.
