i had an oil analysis done from blackstone as well. it said i had 1% fuel dilution with 3500 miles on the oil. i normally change it at 5k but i was impatient and sent in my sample with 3500. the analaysis said that the fuel dilution was within normal range.

but from what i have read on bob is the oil guy, blackstones analyses arent the most accurate compared to other places that do oil analyses for fuel dilution measurements. something to do with the way they analyze their sample vs other places.
Stay away from that forum. It is full of mindless fanatics that don't know anything but think they are geniuses. I've used two different Labs, Blackstone and Oil Analyzers, and results were similar. Their methods are scientific.

So what I am say is a lot of people on btog are full of it

Let me talk about the 1 percent oil dilution you mentioned at 3500 miles. Doesn't mean a thing. It's possible that when you pulled the sample the oil didn't get hot enough to disapate the fuel. At over 7k my oil showed 1percent, and that was because when the sample was taken, my mechanic started the car long enough only to move it to one of his bays. You would be most interested in knowing fuel dilution after putting 7 or 8k on your oil

i followed blackstones instructions and took the sample after driving the car to operating temp for a while like 20 minutes. the oil was hot as shit.

and they told me the 1% was normal, anything under 2% is good, so i am not worried about it.

Many of you have seen the recent threads on blown engines, thrown rods etc. and some of you are asking this question: Is my engine going to blow? Is the L15B7 reliable? The short answer is...yes, it's reliable. Even though it has been turbocharged, and even though it is GDI.

This engine was developed by Honda in 2016 for the Civic platform (and Accord), to include the Civic turbo, Civic Si, Honda CR-V, and the Honda Accord.
In reality, the L-platform engine has been around a lot longer than 2016. It was introduced as a 1.2L in the Honda Fit in 2001 and has expanded to 1.3L and 1.5L displacements, with the addition of turbocharger in recent years. For all intents and purposes, it is considered a reliable engine and Honda has addressed cold-climate oil dilution issues in cars involving the L15 engine from 2016-2018.

Blackstone uses flashpoint analysis to measure fuel dilution. It's not as scientific as chromatography, but it would probably catch any obvious dilution issues. I personally prefer Blackstone's readouts/comparisons over canned reports from other labs like Polaris.

Yeah, I think my biggest concern is that unlike last winter, I seem to be smelling the gas issue every cold weather start, or almost all of them, this year. Mind you, it is only for a minute but, any ideas or suggestions why?

There are probably a number of explanations. The most obvious is that some fuel gets past the rings during cold starts. It usually gets burned off, once the engine reaches operating temps.

You can try switching your air circulation to interior only, to help prevent "fresh" air entering from near the engine bay.

Anyone with a 2019-20 with the 1.5T have any issues with the oil / issues when driving on a cold start? I'm planning on upgrading from my Accord sometime before the summer starts and I liked the engine when test driving it but just wanna know if there were any abnormal issues with the newer models.

I smell gas in my oil but does not smell like gas on cold start. I'm not even worried about it tbh. Plenty of oil dilution posts but not many posts proving that its been a problem. If you change your oil every 5k miles you will be fine.

I've got a 2019 with 11,000 on it now and two blackstone analysis show nothing major. 2nd one was around 8k mi still good they say.

Also I beat on it at least once a day with the cvt in sport mode and the paddles and havent had any issues. It did show a leak once but so far nothing more. Mustve been residual oil from the factory or super slow leak. But on my sport. No having real tire pressure monitoring sucks.

Also the side bolsters on the thighs and back are so hard! I drive long trips. Vehicle is very low as well! Mechanically good, wish I wouldve choose something else.

But it does get great gas mileage when easy on it and on the highway

Do not listen to this gump.i bought a 2017 civic si with a cold air INTAKE and used with 27000 miles on it I had it for 6 months and I put 5800 miles on it and the engine blew.
You bought it used. That was already something you should have looked out for. You don't know if the prior owner abused the hell out of it or not. Based off your anecdote, I think the prior owner did abuse the vehicle and / or you did too after your purchase.

Take a look at the tuning survey @gtman posted and you should see rates of failure of tuned vehicles.
