I sold my si this weekend and got a brand new 2019 sti. Zero regrets, its a way more analog and driver oriented car than the si. Biggest plus is being able to gas a right turn from a stop without peeling out.
I wanted an STI, but couldn’t stand the thought of getting 17 mpg out of a small car and the fact I’ve heard they are not really reliable.
Anyway, I sat in a new WRX and really liked the seating position and visibility compared to my Si coupe.
Would you say the visibility is much better in the WRX/STI?

Coming from a 2019 STI here... visibility is definitely a little better in the Subaru, but not so much that I'd even say I noticed it. The STI and an Si sedan are about equal IMO... the coupe you just always lose because of the tiny back windows. Can't really compare the coupe to a 4 door. :(

Might lease a GTI, I want something a little more refined/comfortable but still fun for my next ride. Possibly the Accord 2.0 Sport MT. Haven't test driven either though. Might also just hang on to the Si until electric cars are more affordable/prevalent.
I still lust after GTIs. I love everything about them........except for the fact they're made by VW and maintenance would likely put me in the poor house, not to mention their reputation for poor long-term durability.

@icemansi I came very close to trading my Si for a Regal TourX. With all of the incentives, dealers are practically giving them away. My wife's '12 Mazda5 has over 160k miles so she's next up for a car. Aside from the Buick nameplate, she really likes the TourX too.

The girlfriend and I are planning on starting a family, so we're looking towards the SUVs. Possibly a CR-V, maybe a Ford Escape.

My dad is advocating for a CX-5, but I never been a Mazda fan, even though I must admit the upped their game since the 2000's.

That is the smart way to do things!
I go through cars every couple of years, mind you this is the first brand new car. I have made a pact with myself this time that I will not purchase another car until student loans are paid off and 401k is maxing out. Retirement before I am 60 is my goal.
Self restraint is so hard to obtain sometimes. I have bought

I cross shopped a lot of small SUVs before I bought my si. The crv was one of the best out there. Subaru outbacks were nice too

Yep, rwd is fun, I can testify to that! But it can be scary linked to a lot of power. Coming back from SoCal it was snowing thru one of the mountain passes that connects SoCal with the Central Valley, getting off for gas I turned off traction control (you know, an experiment :)) and the rear started to misbehave when I mashed down on it. Luckily I have Michelin Sports so I was able to keep things under control when I drifted my car on a right turn. I turned TC back on, I didn't want to end up like those guys in the "muscle cars gone wrong" videos. Once is enough for me!
With my rear wheel drive cars I go super slow in the rain and lite snow. Hardly drove in the snow and have the wife's Jeep for that:)

I do miss the fun factor of a high performance rear wheel drive toy though:)

I bought my si as a daily driver because I'm tired of moving cars every 2 to 3 years. My plan is to pay the civic off, then go without a car payment while I pay my house off early. Trying to retire by 40
Smart post and that is the thing. I get excited about future cars, yet need to beef up my investments and put funds away for my little boy's college. There list of fun cars shrink in the SI's price range lol.

The day I am retired is the day they find me dead behind my desk in my office. Even if the shares my company gave me make me a millionaire

I used to commute 60miles a day so the si was a no brainer at 40mpg. But since I dont commute anymore, 17mpg isnt bad for a weekend car. I know the ej257 is notorious for being unreliable, but its been around for a very long time and has all the support it needs. Its a platform that is a little dated but its all figured out, so to me its the better car to hold onto because i can actually wrench on it since it has fewer electronics. Unlike the Si, which has a closed loop system, where if 1 thing goes wrong all lights go off. The Vsa is connected to the abs which is connected to the handbrake. If the handbrake ever goes out, the entire system has to go. Also, if the si battery every dies with the door locked, good luck.
I loved the si, but i see myself holding the sti for 10 years instead of the si.

No plans to replace the Si before 200K.

My wife's car, however, is long overdue. Looking at the Accord Sport 6MT or possibly another Si Sedan. The Accord has more room, and will likely win over my wife and kids.
