I will give it a try. Thanks for your comments. I just never thought about doing this

How do you remove the artwork files?

Thanks again.
I can't remember exactly because I did it a few years ago, but isn't there an option in the head-unit to disable artwork?

And to add on what SCOPESYS said, I would just not have any artwork to display because that's one more thing the slow-ass Honda system has to load and consequently slow down your songs.
If you make sure your artwork files are 200 x 200 or smaller, it really does not slow does the Honda Player. (loading a 200 x 200 image is insignificant,, and only takes a small fraction of a second.

I recently bought a 64GB (there's around 8000 songs on there) USB stick with the intention of filling it up with music to play in my car (2016 coupe exl). It works, but it is insanely slow. Upwards of 10 seconds between song switches, lags out my reverse and side camera, just unacceptable performance. Is this normal behavior and I'm stuck with a smaller stick with less songs, or is there something I'm missing?

All the songs are mp3 with 300x300 cover art embedded and sorted into folders by album.
My guess here is that your stick is defective. I bought my first one (64 gb) when I bought my '16 EX and when it started to go bad, this is exactly what happened. I got about 2 years out of it. I replaced it with another one, same size, same brand, and that one which is now in my '19 Si has been fine to this point. I don't know if you can return it, but that's what I'd want to try.

How many folders "TOTAL" ?
More than 700, and additional folders over the 1st 700 will not display, and will also slow down the Honda Player.

I had trouble with songs skipping or pausing, so I bought a really fast thumb drive: Corsair Voyager GTX 128GB. That size is big enough, since the recommended formatting is 32 GB FAT32. The drive works well, but it took a lot of work to finally succeed.

1) I used some special program to get 32 GB FAT32 partitioning.
2) I used the Asunder program in Linux to rip about 100 CDs.
3) Then I had to use -another- program to sort the folders and files on the drive. Until I did, the folders and their contents were kind of random. I set it up as one folder per CD, but yu might find that making folders for categories would work better. Scrolling through the list of 100 folders can be difficult while driving.
4) I never had much success using the car's voice commands to select particular folders or particular songs.

By the way, the GTX is as fast as a solid state computer disk drive. I loaded Linux on to one of these drives and it boots in less than 90 seconds. A regular thumb drive takes several minutes.

I guess you get what you pay for -- but I have had no problem with the company branded 128G Usb 3.0 stick from Micro-Center ( Civic 2018 Premium system)
