This recently released report on car color choice... I went with PMM which would be the most popular choice for Compact/Sport cars in Europe and 2nd most popular color in North America. That Phoenix Yellow tho… I would have considered it, but based on this chart looks like demand for yellow is pretty low..

I won't buy red, green or yellow of any car, and I don't care what it is.

Color popularity doesn't matter on this car. It'll be a limited run probably in 2021 and will be sold out with ADM even if it's in pink.

Great analysis of global color preferences.

A lot of the negative comments on the CTR styling have settled down over the last couple of years as people have gotten used to it. Personally, in the past year I have never had a negative comment. More like 'wow, what is that beautiful automobile?' It seems to me that a lot of the appearance complaints on this car result from color choice. Despite the F1 ‘history and tradition’ involved, Championship White, which Honda went to press with, was to me the poorest aesthetic choice as the flagship color for the Type R. It provides too much contrast with the black areas, breaking up the basically aerodynamic and visually pleasing aspects of the design. You perceive just areas and patches of black and white, not an overall design concept. If you have white and it works for you, that's fine, it just doesn't work for me.

My color choices in descending order: the two greys which soften, but do not eliminate the contrast between the body color and the black areas, allowing the total harmony and functionality of the design to be recognized; the bright colors, red and metallic blue, which provide harmony by distracting the eye from the black areas, black, which erases the contrast but also masks much of the style content, white, the worst, too much contrast.

My choice was PMM, apparently the choice of many others globally as well, also the color of the 2015 Si that I traded on the CTR. I have owned several different Hondas, mostly metallic grey. The sonic gray is appealing, but there is something about the metallic content of PMM that helps it to very subtly enhance the styling details. IMO yellow would be even worse than white. It's loud, the contrast problem remains, and there is no character to it as there in the other colors. Just a personal opinion.

Yellow is a whack color on a car. Even a Type-R. I've been this way since 2000....

The chart surprised me . All my Hondas in the past were what I call neutral colors, beige or greys. When I was doing the build on my 2019 Sport Touring online, the rallye red just blew me away. The contrast between the red and black is gorgeous in my opinion . Never thought i would buy a red car. As fate would have it, the one CTR that my dealer got was rallye red . My color choice for the CTR are in order, RR, AB, SGP , CW, PMM, CBP. I personally like the bright colors to contrast with the black trim . As far as Phoenix Yellow , I'm not a yellow car guy at all. I like it for an accent color on a multicolored paint scheme but that's it.

They hint at it in the report, but vehicle type definitely affects this.
In North America, most people are moving to Crossovers and SUVs. Almost no one wants a colorful SUV. They're not flashy vehicles so why make them a flashy color?
The other thing is that the majority of people just see cars as a way to get from point A to point B. Those people have no reason to drive a colorful car. If your car is just an appliance, why would you want it to stand out?
If everyone loved cars and drove sports cars, the color statistics would be different.

I don't think there is any correlation when it comes to sports cars. We have poop green/yellow M4s running around.

Sports cars tend to make up the small percentage of cars, even less when it comes to more interesting colors.

Tosh! CW is the best colour because of the contrast with the black and red.....subjective of course....but I am right...

Wait, hold on... is this simply based on colour take rate?

Yellow is so low because no one offers yellow. How many cars can you think of that come in yellow? Maybe 5% of available car models on the market have a yellow option, at most?

How many yellow CUVs or SUVs are available? They’re the biggest market in terms of car sales, yet no one really has them in yellow. Everyone has black, dark grey and white, though.

I agree with this to some degree, but car manufacturers try very hard to make what people will buy. If enough people wanted yellow Camry's, Toyota would make them.

White dominates the second color black 2/1 followed by gray in third place.I totally agree with the white being the most polarizing but ironicly its number one color in the world maybe because it's safe ? I have the black just for the reasons you mentioned the main reason for not getting gray is because you can wax all day and it doesn't take a shine that well, my second choice was the sonic gray followed by polished metal.Nice job breaking down the colors being chosen

Came in here to say this.

A regular Civic in yellow? Sure, it might sit on the lot for a while. A yellow Type R, though? It'll move just as quickly as any of the others.
