I wish someone had told me that I couldn’t mod my cars when I was younger, would’ve saved me some money and headaches. That said, some light personalization to make it feel like “his” isn’t a bad thing.

As for mine, I’m debating on the AWE exhaust, otherwise I prefer to keep a low profile appearance.

Same here! I learned my lesson with the headaches and money lost in mods that I could've used on nice vacations. Will be buying cars with the performance wanted from factory.

Only mod I have is Hondata, auto-on sports mode is convenient.

I told myself I wouldn't but I did anyway - ordered the MAPerformance quad-tip exhaust. Damn you Black Friday and your ridiculously good deals!

Well the dealer put tinted windows on mine before I bought it. Then I installed a K&N air filter for um, mileage;). Then I installed a stiffer Rear Motor Mount, because I got tired of the cruise control wandering about. It also helps with the engine flop.

After 73,000 miles, if the right Black Friday sale appears, I may give it a "tune up".
Is the K&N filter worth it? It's just the actual air filter and nothing else right? What does that really do other than just being able to clean and keep using the same filter forever? Just got my 2020 Si, thinking of getting that or the K&N performance intake.

Just a heads up, the k&n intake will throw off your fuel trims unless tuned for said intake. The drop in filter is a good idea imo as long as you dont over oil it when cleaning!

K&N usually claims 50% more air flow compared to the paper filters. Will you feel a performance gain from it? Unlikely. But yes, the fact you can clean it and re-use it does save you a little money compared to having to buy a new paper filter each time it needs to be replaced.

Well, K&N claims three or four HP at peak, but I doubt that you could feel that. What I do "feel" is an eagerness to rev. It just "feels" quicker on the throttle. When the engine draws air through the air filter, the air filter is an obstruction to the air flow. The thicker and more restrictive the air filter is (the better it filters) the more pressure drop is created after the air filter. So thinner air after the air filter. The thinner air is directly comparable to being at a higher altitude. Where the K&N will not filter the "fine dust" as well as the factory filter. It will give you a denser airflow to the turbo compressor. So that the turbo starts compressing already denser air.

Some people will say that it doesn't matter what the density of the air going into the turbo is, because the computer will look at the pressure and run the turbo until it hits the pre programed pressure target. But it does matter because a lower starting pressure will cause the turbo to work longer to get you there. Plus, drive your car in the mountains and tell us whether or not it makes any difference in performance.

Yes, be careful if you replace the factory intake hardware. Fuel trims are very important to keep in the expected range.

I second the motion on the K&N panel filter. It's the increase in throttle response and that alone. That's all I really wanted. I believe that it does make for a more free Happy rev. The BOV VTA makes a more wicked pppppsssssssttttt sound since the boost build is quicker ( not suggesting that I get MORE boost) I just want a Borla exhaust down the road then I am done. Not completely stock but just enough to personalize the car to my liking. I have spent a lot of time and money on mods in the past ( different autos over the years) It's fun but a money loosing trap for the most part.

Be careful with placebo effect on intakes adding much power, especially with the added sound giving the perception of increased power.

Here's a nice video from Hondata testing numerous intakes, including K&N.

Mine will stay stock, for now, aside from the rear motor mount. There is way to much slop in the stock mount and it causes jolting unless you shift perfectly. Drive around in 1st gear and let off the gas and you'll understand what i mean.

Other than mount and tint, i cant bring myself to mod much else in such a new car. Ill get the itch someday
that's how I feel, way to new to be modding, besides tint got that down on the way home from dealer

Modify or not ? It depend on what you expect from your car and how
much money your are willing to invest.
Ideally, you should be able to try a modified SI to compare with your own.
I changed mine gradually and invested a lot of money.
I was wondering: is it worth it ?
Recently, I got on as a passenger in a SI stock, then, I took the SI stock guy
for a ride in mine.
Believe me, it's quite a difference, the guy could not believe it.
He told me: if I had money, I would modify it without hesitation but I have
to finish paying it.
To modify or not ? There is no ready-made answer, you decide.

Honestly, I don't see a reason to mess with it. Aside from my Si running and performing just fine I don't want to spend any extra coin on something that may not work out very well. I don't blame anyone for adding tint and installing an aftermarket Amp/Sub/Door speakers as we all know the stereo system is pathetic.
