i know this is a dumb question but can anyone add their 2 cents on me dropping in a 12” box sub without adding an aftermarket amp? Will it cause any issues, how difficult the install may be, and if it will add some decent bass but of course without the power it would give with an amp

If you mean just moving the factory sub output from the factory sub to a different sub cabinet (box); I believe you'll be disappointed. Technically... the new box would work so long as the impedance is compatible. But I doubt that you would really be able to hear it from the trunk.

But installing it would be pretty simple; so far as I know.

If you can borrow one or easily return it; you should be able to audition it by just connecting it up and closing the trunk.

Thanks! Luckily I didn’t buy it it’s just leftover from my old totaled neon. The tow company didn’t let me disconnect the amp because it was a “liability issue” though I think they just wanted to keep it for themselves

I agree, it only took about 8 years and a couple other cars between
From what I've gathered so far, the factory amp has crap settings, so just changing the sub wont accomplish much. To gain anything you need an amp.

Honestly a nice 10 or underseat powered sub would fill out the sound nicely...also get an equalizer on your phone when you play music through bluetooth itll help
