Great write up, and mirrors most of my impressions after having put about 1000 miles on my sedan. I'm glad to have Honda Sensing, although I turn off RDM a lot of the time, because I find it too sensitive on the winding 2-lane roads I take to and from school. I'm VERY happy to have adaptive cruise for long highway trips. As for mileage, for my first two tanks, mostly local driving with a lot of stoplights, I averaged a shade over 30mpg (manually calculated). On a recent run up and down I-95, trip computer was showing an average MPG of 40-42. It was interesting to see your shift points, they are lower than I would normally do. I plan try them out for a tank and see how it goes. I'd also add that the infotainment, if anything has been a pleasant surprise, perhaps because my expectations were so low. Other than one random cutout in Android Auto, it's worked very well.
I think 40-42 mpg is pretty good darn good. The reason I shift when I is because the turbocharger starts to spool up around 2000 rpm and it leads to a slightly higher fuel consumption as the electronic wastegate isn't bleeding off all the pressure.

And Android Auto.. what a mother. It's a great idea, but it's still not 100% and the way it fails is soo annoying. Like needing google maps - even though the car has garmin onboard - so I have to run google maps on my phone for AA to work. Boooo. haha. Or having to disconnect and reconnect my phone after shutting off the engine and starting it again later when I get back to the car. One thing I will say is, the music playback over USB rather than bluetooth is far better sound, so bravo for that.

Bought my wife a 2019 Sport the week before i bought my Si. The insurance difference between the two cars with her sport possessing the safety sense package is only $49.cheaper per year than my Si. That tells me the insurance company doesn't even factor that package in. I'm also happy i don't have that big box above and behind the rearview mirror. I would enjoy having the cruise control she has but thats it.
Thank god I got a 2019.:D

The Sport is more affordable by young drivers, so its statistics for accidents and claims is probably higher than the Si. Insurance is not going to be any lower in all likelihood. I wouldn't be surprised if that $49 is just because your wife is a woman driver and it's only less Liability. I'd like to know for sure if you don't mind having a look?

I know when my sister bought a 2015 Corolla and the insurance was higher on the cheaper model with less safety features. They specifically explained to her the increased safety features is why it's lower, and that makes sense because injury and death to persons is the highest cost.

I could post the insurance breakdown per car but I'm not . My Si is $49. higher because of the difference in the glass coverage . The Si has one extra piece of glass on the roof that causes it i suppose.

Yeah, no - don't bother posting everything. I just meant is the $49 on the Liability, or collision or comprehensive. I'm guessing comprehensive if it's down to the moon roof.

Anyway, I own civics with and without the safety sense package and I'm happy the vehicle I drive is without it.

I'm proudly part of the "glad I bought a 2019" because I still don't want Honda sensing on my car. I bought the car to have complete control over it, not vise versa.

My one question for anyone with a 2020 Si is how does the emergency braking work on this car with a manual transmission? What happens if you're in 4th or 5th and the system cuts into panic brake you to a stop? Are you just going to stall or did Honda implement some clutch depressing device. That's my biggest concern is how this system works with a manual transmission car.

It hasnt come to a complete stop for me yet. Its saved my ass twice on the back roads with deer. Each time the system gave me enough time to realize and react. I think of it as preemptive braking not sliding to a stop.

But honestly im curious how this system would work in city, bumper to bumper traffic. Id think it would be more likely to kill the car at low speed braking.

" fan speed control buttons were added, but that may have been part of 2019 now that I think about it. They're definitely not there in pre-2019."

The fan speed buttons were on the 2019s as well

The one time it happened to me so far (car cut out in front of me out of a driveway on a main road), I remembered it beeping furiously and stopping the car, and me reactively pushing down down the clutch and brake together as it occurred, preventing a stall. My guess is that's what most manual drivers would do in a panic stop anyway, isn't it? Short of that, I would guess that emergency braking could stall the car at a certain point. My understanding is that an occasional stall doesn't actually do all that much damage to the engine. Theoretically, that might be better than allowing a collision to occur.

I've had a fair amount of bumper-to-bumper so far -- I have to commute on a highway with frequent traffic lights that build up long lines, and have had ZERO problems with the emergency braking system being annoyingly twitchy. I think there is some combination of speed AND proximity that sets it off. In other words, if you're creeping along at 5mph, you'd have to get extremely close for it to kick in, and closer than I've ever had so far (1000 miles in).

Good write up. This is the way all new cars are heading. Like it or not. Honda didn't just add these new feature out of the blue... It comes from user demand. All of Honda's competition are doing it. I personally am not a fan of a lot of the new tech, give me good ol fashion buttons and knobs!

On another note, I was at my mechanics yesterday getting my oil changed, and this was parked in front of his shop.

I don't know the year, but it has over 200k on it, needs a trans rebuild, and possibly an engine rebuild. Paint is shot, but body is good. Doesn't have any tech, not even ABS. Owner is asking $15k. If I can talk him down, might pick it up as a project car

These are worth 10k in running condition.... lol.

15k needing transmission and engine work?
The parts on these things are extremely expensive.
He would be lucky to get 6k for it.

Good condition ones are definitely worth 15K or so, but this one is certainly not that. A unmolested 2004 was sitting on a dealer lot near me recently w/ an asking price of 18K if I recall. Really wanted to go test drive it.
