Yep check your bolts put a piece of painters tape on inside of socket if you don’t want the bolt to look like you messed with it... that’s for people with OCD like me

Just did my first oil change at 6000 miles and I noticed oil on the engine block under the valve cover on the firewall side. I remember checking for this back at the 3000 mile mark and it was clean at that time. I've had a catch can since 500 miles.

Didn't realize how long it has been since I have posted- but the car was repaired very done efficiently at Lombardi Honda in Montreal. They detected that the crank sensor was leaking from its seal at the block. They had never seen this before and the service adviser remarked that this is normally a Chrysler kind of issue.
Anyhow, the oil made its way down to where it looked like main seal but it was a quick fix and the car is now in storage for the winter.

Just got back from the dealership. It was a leaking valve cover gasket and it was replaced under warranty.

Guess I am going to have to take a trip to my local dealer and get my valve cover replaced too! I just noticed oil on the firewall side of the engine. No wonder my oil level was below the max line. I just had my dealership do the first oil change on my CTR this past August. I bought the car brand new this past April. It's a 2019 and now I have over 8000 miles. I suspect it's been leaking ever since it was new because my oil level was about 1/4 below the max line when I took the car in for it's first oil change. I told the dealer that and they said it was normal but if it continued to happen to let them know. Obviously it was not normal and I can't believe they didn't see the oil leak!

The leaking has nothing to do with plastic valve covers. Manufacturers have been using them since last decade and they seal just as well as aluminum valve covers.
And the plastic IS notorious for warping on various models.

Did you try tightening the bolts?

Good to know that I'm not the only 2019 with this issue. I wonder what the cause is though? Faulty gasket or just bolts that aren't properly torqued? You would think that 3 years into a production run that these sorts of problems would have been fixed by now.

Oh please these are new cars. If they were warping over years of use maybe but there's little chance they are warping new. I used to change a lot of valve cover gaskets in the days of steal or aluminum valve covers as this is not a new phenomenon. It's a matter of the valve covers not being torqued properly in the right pattern or imperfections in the gasket, not enough RTV, etc.

Plastic warps with heat and can also crack. It is not car nor part specific and yes it may take time.

Purchased my CTR in August 2019 and currently have 4050 miles. Just checked for an oil leak and the valve cover by the firewall close to the driver side is leaking. Thanks for this post and making me aware of this problem. I hope this isn’t a foreshadow of the reliability and quality of this car. I’m losing faith in Honda.

Can we get a poll going on this OP? My contribution so far:

MY2019 with 2,000 miles and no leak yet.

Yep Plastic and you can keep throwing gaskets at it.
Has anyone tightened the damn thing!?

I am losing faith in men not Honda.

Should we torque it to spec? And do you know what the torque spec is?
