You're going to love the car with real tires.

Pre-boost malaise is a great description of the challenging throttle application problem. I still have some work to do recalibrating my brain for the power of the car, but a co-driver who was along for a ride with me on a throw-away run noted that I didn't spend nearly as much time "off throttle" as she did. I was consciously applying throttle well before some apexes knowing that there would be a short lag.

So I did my first local CCSCC event in the Type R this past weekend bone stock on the stock tires. Just wanted to get a baseline of what the car has before I start going down the rat hole buying a bar and tires (next Spring). Temps on Saturday were 40~ in the first session/55 in the afternoon. Finished 2nd in class to the guy who took FTDi and 6th overall. As a barometer, I was within two STS guys (1 who was .01 from the jacket this year) who trophied, so not an embarrassment. Sunday, was 5th on index .5 out although I coned away a run which would have taken it. All in all not bad. Some of the regulars predicted gloom and doom beforehand, and were really stunned I had such little issues. Hey they car has four wheels/tires like my last one so what's the big deal.

Overall thoughts of the car was other than the useless first gear grip/short shift to avoid any wheel hop due to absolutely no bite, the car was pretty stellar, very predictable, fast in transitions, and impressive. The 20" wheels and Continentals are at best ok but I'm not going to buy new tires for two more events just have them winter over. We had one section where you had to shift to 3rd and back which was very easy and without drama. Stock exhaust is really quiet which for the most part allows the tunes I crank to be really easily heard but I must admit not hearing any exhaust sound is a bit weird. The #1 biggest challenge for me was recalibrating my brain as to went the boost would come and how much advance throttle tip in was needed to have max power on corner track out. My M3 had very linear power where by mid-apex you could do a progressively roll. This car seems to have a pre-boost malaise just before all hell breaks loose when boost is in. Now I am headed to Chicago SCCA region event to pick up a few sets of wheels and tires from Leeder this weekend. Not running although I was tempted but plan on spending the weekend selling off BMW parts/wheels.
Before you buy any parts hit me up. if i cant sell it I may part the car out!

other than the wheels and tires you're getting from me lol

I will do. I still busy selling wheels and parts from my M3. Reason I'm not running in Sunday is I'm delivering my winter wheels to a guy south of me. Sometimes I think we're crazy to take up this hobby.

This thread seems to have died a bit and I'll be posting up some videos of my most recent events where you can criticize away but wanted to get this re-activated. I've done two weekends of events, with the first on pure stock setup and the second trying Mike L.'s spent tire/wheel (he said the tires were spent and his assessment was spot on) setup and back onto the stock tires. Car is a handful. Results weren't bad but it's still a progress. I've never done events with any nannies (VSA) in place, and come to determine that R+ mode with VSA still active is really the fastest mode. This is contra to everything I've ever experienced and my opinion on fresh tires next spring may change but that's where I'm at now. I have a Karcepts bar which will go in over the winter and have Motegi wheels for proper tires.

I spent last weekend autocrossing in Atlanta. Saturday was the final "points" event of the year and Sunday was "Champion of Champions" day when all class winners and Pros participate in a single-day two course format with three runs in the morning and three in the afternoon.

I had to work Saturday morning and rushed to get to the site for the afternoon run group. I had to cut my coursework short due to time and it showed in my driving. I never found a rhythm all day and finished 7th in Pro class on PAX.

Sunday was more fun. Three morning runs, then run basically the same course in reverse ( a few elements were changed for safety). I was sitting in 5th after morning runs. One Civic Si driver from Louisiana was sitting in 2nd! He was running 255s and a large rear bar, and his raw times were almost identical to mine. Impressive. I dropped to 7th in the afternoon runs - my third run was 1.1 seconds faster but they say i hit a cone.

I'm looking forward to running more events next year and learning to deal with the speed of this car.

Peter, I did the morning group on Saturday -- sorry I missed you. It was maybe 38 or 40 degrees when we ran, and that sealant was spankin'-new. Scary! But it doesn't seem that surprising that an Si would be close -- not much room for power.

Thanks (congrats?) to Mike for destroying the DS 2020 PAX

I do wonder though outside of Mike's performance(both Nats and Peru tour) what other data's been used. I don't recall DS that often raw timing FS in the events I went last year. The new PAX puts DS cars just under a 1/4 sec faster than FS cars on a 45 sec course.

And CAM-C, as usual, is a joke.....

Yeah, FS vs DS isn't right. DS did likely need a little adjustment, but not to be faster than F!

sorry not sorry? :p
As much as I respect your performance in 2019, it was a bit of an outlier and looking at the times relative to FS which was actually made significantly softer by comparison, it makes no sense. At Peru Tour and Nat's, the class winner was fairly close on time with comparable conditions. Not sure I buying that but one more thing to give RR shit over the next time he comes up for hug.

Hi Des, I saw your name in the results and was sorry I missed you. The new sealer was still a bit slick in the afternoon and I spun there on my first run Saturday (cold tires and nannie rear brake are a bad combination). On Sunday there was a surprising amount of grip on the sealed section - not like the bare pavement but not like a skating rink either.

I was in the SI.
Definitely a fun format and course was great. I was happy with morning runs, especially since tires had 0 runs on them. But left a good bit of time out there in the afternoon.
Didn't really feel much difference on the sealed section.
