My AC is dead. For the second time. One year ago, they replaced the “compressor, clutch, and coils” under warranty. Now the car is out-of-warranty.

Would the “coils” they replaced last year be the evaporator? Or would it be the condenser?

I’m taking it in tomorrow for repair. They’d better not say, “Your condenser is bad but it’s not covered by the TSB since it is not the one from the factory.”

I looked up the coil part number from last year’s paperwork. It appears to be an electrical coil that’s part of the compressor assembly.

Their work order states that they aren't sure if it's the compressor or the condenser but that they have to replace the compressor first and if it still leaks they'd replace the condenser. When I asked why they didn't use dye to determine where the leak(s) are the guy got argumentative. After I asked a few more questions the guy got pissed and said "we refuse to service your vehicle." Unbelievable. I left them a bad review.
According to the tsb they have to do the leak dye test first. Shady dealer imo

Dealer says the compressor is leaking again and needs replacing. They just replaced it 360 days ago. They gave me the car back unfixed and said they are “submitting paperwork” to see if Honda will pay for it. They “hope to hear in a day or two.”

Dealer replaced the compressor today. Honda "paid" 90% and I paid $166.

FYI I just received this letter today... (xposted on another thread)

TL;DR- free warranty replacement of condenser and reimbursement if you've already paid for service in the past.

I live in Canada and I also received my letter (extended warranty)

Happy to see that Honda stand behind their products and take care of their customers.

Think this has gotten the dealers in line. Didn't get it fixed last time cause they were talking about charging near $500 for the leak test, took it in for the A17 service and said I wanted the condenser replaced according to the new TSB since they knew I had A/C issues from my last visit and they just went and did it.

i live in canada and have a 2018 HB.........honda change the blower fan, blower motor, condenser and compressor......(i was having the werid bearing noise when AC was on)
just before winter(2 month after reparation) , the compressor was already making that same fucking noise but the AC was blowing air at 4deg C (IR gun)

i'll go back in spring to check it out if the noise is comming back.....but i have not received that letter......but i have received the oil dilution letter....lol

th HB have a different condenser?
because my symptom is pretty much the same thing
loud broken bearing noise coming from compressor...that stop immediatly if i manually put the AC to off and start back if put manually to on or auto (summer)

BUT last time i check with IR gun my AC was blowing at 4C (40F) deg…..so yes it take 5 minute to go down to 40F but it does go...but the sound is so fucking annoying

Same condenser part number but maybe a different manufacturer. My hatchback also has noisy A/C but it is not on warranty anymore, so I'm not bothering to do anything about it for now. I feel like Honda is just being cheap by not covering hatchbacks under the warranty extension.

pretty sure someone could go to ''small claims'' division and win over their dealership with all problem over the condenser and prove that same part number use in all civic and the regular civic have extended waranty because a defective parts, etc.….. and not hatchback….

if someone sue Honda in regular court, it will probably not win…….. but small claims over a dealership it is maybe possible

for now my car is under waranty so next spring i'll go check it AGAIN.....but if they do nothing, maybe i'll start a ''procedure''

What would you sue the dealer for? Honda is the one that decides the warranty conditions and coverage, not the dealer.
