This is the best explanation I've seen yet. I'm going to check the free play on my Si as I've been getting some weird crunchiness going into second sometimes. Not sure if it's actually gears grinding though as it sounds like it's coming from below the shifter.

Great video, thanks for sharing.
My type R (10,000km) has always been notchy into second & I had the occasional 1st-2nd gear grind under hi revs.
I checked the free play on my clutch as per video. (Easy to do, all you need is a 12mm spanner/wrench and it takes less than 30 seconds).
I found I had free play in the master cylinder rod (took about 3 clockwise rotations to take up the slack). I did not have to adjust the pedal itself. Just loosened the locking nut on the master cylinder rod & rotated the rod clockwise until I could feel it firm up. Tightened the lock nut & job done.
From first test drive, I noticed improved shifting from 1st to 2nd & 3rd to 2nd.

I have been driving for a week now & tested many hi rev 1st to 2nd pulls without a problem to date.
Shifting is improved generally

This slack in the rod adjustment must have been from factory as Michael said in the video.

If you are having minor/occasional shift problems, then this is well worth checking out.

Thanks Again

Did the pushrod and pedal adjustment along with AC Delco Symcromesh and Acuity shifter cable bushings...seems like a different gearbox! No more second gear crunch. Great info, thanks!
