I noticed some of these comments were from January 2016. Can someone explain if and how I can check for a system update? I just bought my ex-t a week ago and this has happened twice. I've rebooted just the touch screen itself and that was a temporary fix.

You mean like on a cell phone? There is no such way. You have to go to the dealer armed with a problem that Honda has already told the dealers how to fix and provided the update to do so. And the dealer has to be aware that this update exists. See the thread on the TSB 16-022 update to see how this works out.

No. I mean if I can get my car connected to wifi I was wondering if the car owners ourselves were supposed to search for system updates regularly. I was never told to come in for updates, or if it does it auto. Jw.

Right. And that's what I was answering. The car has NO WAY to get its own updates. Nor has Honda made it possible for owners to know if updates are available or to get them on their own. Honda actively tries to prevent owners from getting most of the updates they do develop by discouraging dealers from updating car firmware.

We had a 2012 Ford Focus with Gen 2 Sync/MyFord Touch. It had many similar kinds of problems as the '16 Civic Display Audio, though much, much worse in degree. Ford made the updates available for download to a USB stick that the owner could then use to update the car on their own. They advertised the availability of these updates/and download links on their owner's "syncmyride" web site. At one point, they issued a fix that was so massive and was intended to fix so many issues, that they wanted to see owners get fixed, that they mailed out USB sticks with the update, and, for owners with navi, an updated SD data card. Sadly, that fix created about as many new issues as it solved and even removed come key features such as one to assign functions to specially labelled buttons on the steering wheel--rendering these buttons useless curiousities that no longer did what the OM said they did for the rest of the car's life.

Ford's latest iteration infotainment, Sync3--they dropped the MyFord Touch branding because it had such a bad reputation--has the ability to find, download, and install its own updates overnight.

Honda is still in kindergarten to get the lessons about infotainment that Ford has already learned.

Ok. Its just a heads up. I got the head unit replaced and amp as well with latest version of software... Still right after one day I had the same issue again.... Going to take my car on Saturday to the dealership and I also reported to Honda Canada and open a case with them....

Oh wow, thanks for the information. So I just need to take it to the dealership to see what they can do?

Correct. But you need to be very specific about the issues you are encountering. And you may need to be very persistent. Honda basically doesn't want the dealer to spend Honda's money giving you any updates unless all else fails.

Intermittent problems that occur, say, every other week are the worst. The dealer will test for a minute, not two weeks, and declare problem not found. Some owners have had luck with cell phone videos demonstrating the problems. It shouldn't be this hard, but Honda isn't there yet.

@lba1977 - After experiencing the loud popping noise, I turned off the Neural Surround and have not experienced it since (Knock on wood) a few months ago, if not last year. It sucks that I am not able to use a feature on the car that I paid a great deal for, but I do not want to experience that random loud popping when entering my car and risk blowing my speakers. I suppose I should Call Honda and start a case, but after watching this thread for any fixes, it seems like they don't even know how to solve it... yet at least, I am being patient and optimistic for now.

But I would say to report the issue so that they can start working as of more complaints...

I've been experiencing a very frustrating issue with my new Touring edition. Basically, about 50% of the time I turn the car on, my audio system pushes loud, static-y pops through my speakers. I've spoken to two different dealership tech guys, and both of them are at a loss as to what may be causing it. My local dealership has requested that I leave the car with them so they can take a more in-depth look at what may be causing the issue, but I figured I'd post here to see if anyone else is experiencing a similar issue.

Once this issue begins, it persists even when the car is turned off and back on. I've tried a factory reset of the head unit, as well as soft resets using the long press of the Audio Power button. This issue occurs regardless of whether bluetooth is connected. It also occurs when the audio is off on boot up. It doesn't seem to matter if I boot into Android Auto or not. Basically, it occurs what seems like randomly.

Needless to say this is a VERY frustrating issue, and it worries me that it might be causing damage to my speakers. The popping noise is at full volume regardless of where the volume is adjusted to.

The only "solution" I've come across is to flush the ECU (disconnecting the power from the battery and touching the positive wire to the negative wire). This was a suggestion offered by the dealer I purchased the car from. While this does seem to fix the issue on the next start up, it flushes all of the settings for every electronic in the car. This means I have to drive the vehicle up to 12 mph to allow for recalibration and then power cycle the car so all the warning lights turn off. Obviously, this is not an acceptable solution to the issue, and the effects do not last long. Last night, when I turned the car off and back on to remove the warning lights, the loud popping noise came back on that start up!

Please let me know if any of you have experienced a similar issue, and if so, what did you/the dealer do to fix it?
I have been rebooting my touch screen display and restarting the car, and finally caved and took my car into service at the dealership. It's happened at least 7 times since I bought it 2 weeks ago. They told me my display was going out and they ordered the new part, will have it replaced tomorrow under warranty. If you're experiencing this I recommend take it to the service dept where you purchased it.

Please come back and post your results. It seems very unlikely to me that this issue is caused by the display going out, but if you've found a fix then I will gladly try it out

I'll be getting the new display installed tomorrow, and over days and weeks we will see if the same problem happens again. At first they told me an update was available, but that was the diagnosis I received.

This is so aggravating. I'm afraid I will be experiencing the same problems.

I've had this happen once to me, I turned the car to ACC mode to test something on Android Auto and it started the pop sound. If i turned off the car and turned it back on immediately it would start with the popping again. Would have to wait a couple of minutes, then turn on for it to go away. Never tried going to ACC mode again with my phone plugged in and the pop has never come back. Thought it was a fluke occurrence, obviously i wasnt alone though.
