I've been wondering about why the 2020 Type R hasn't been released. My speculation is that since it's the only Civic (maybe one of the only Hondas) without Sensing, is that they're working on adding that to the Type R. I'm sure it was a challenge for the Si being a Manual transmission (not sure if it was on other 6MT cars). I'd like to think that they'd add the option of a wing delete and 19" wheels on a "lower trim" version. Maybe not a special serial numbered badge, but I wonder if it'd be more like an SiR and bridge the gap. It's a pretty big jump $26K to $37K for Honda's only real performance offerings. Ideally, I'd like to see them add Lane Watch and heated seats and I'd be putting a deposit down tomorrow. I'll probably end up getting the 2020 either way and trade my Si and S2000. Hope the 2020 will be worth the wait.

Sensing is already standard fitment in some countries. In NZ our Type R’s have sensing, I believe since the car came out. Looks to be just an option Honda US never selected, maybe to keep landed cost down?

Even at 50K or more units globally when the FK8 ends, that is not a lot of cars under today’s conditions. Especially in the U.S. market where they are used, abused, crashed, trashed, and mechanically modified beyond recognition, so that they become not Type Rs, but Type R platforms. The number of real Type Rs becomes substantially reduced. It bothers me that are people on this forum who have modified the cars, tracked them or otherwise used them hard, that clearly think that it’s perfectly OK to physically un-mod them and pass them off on unsuspecting buyers as original Type Rs with normal usage.

Back to topic, I'm looking forward to the 2020 announcement because then I see what cool stuff others might be buying into, but that's about it. I hope those that have passed up on '19 CTRs to wait out for the '20 CTR get rewarded though, it's always a risky gamble.

I do think the fact that Honda hasn't announced anything about the '20 CTR is a little fishy, and possibly points to marketing shenanigans more than anything. However, maybe it's just to avoid taking away from other model line-ups? Especially if it's just a fascia update.

I don't think they realize that the arguing isn't a good look on all sides.
My wish list for 2020 -

Slightly better stereo / at least sound and responsiveness
Phoenix Yellow paint

What I DON'T want -

Honda sense and this other lane alerting BS - it's not hard to safely drive a car without all that nonsense, and it really just enabled cell phone distracted drivers - hate all that stuff

What am I missing? Where is the Type R in your panoply of automobiles? You have a lot to say for not owning one. I guess if the 2020 offers better infotainment, which it certainly needs, and yellow paint, which it does not need, and no additional driver assists, which I agree with, you will then belly up to the bar and buy one. Hard to believe that you have 176 thanks when you perhaps have never even sat in the car.

Edit: I'M looking for that badge pic its here somewhere. But I did find pics of badges in the 20k area from october of 2018. considering it went on sale june 2017 thats a year and and 4 months to hit 20k cars. it's been a year and 2 months since then plus they started selling it in more markets. So a badge number of 40k plus is not unreasonable at this time. But like I said I seen a badge of 40k from I believe australia quite some time ago so im sure its higher then that now.
Mine is from mid June 2018 and is 15339. Let's assume they got up to 16000 that month. Assuming consistent production, they should be hitting about 38-39k this month. I know the badge numbers aren't entirely sequential, but I doubt they're far enough off that you've seen a 40k badge number before this month

Yea, what could Honda possibly be hiding to wait this long to announce the 2020s? Nothing!- the hype is over- just announce it already & move on, my god...a different color & maybe smaller rims. Whoop-Di-fucking do.
Such a fickle company...surprised the US even got a type R as conservative & boring as Honda is. They are very capable but refuse to build exciting stuff for the USA.
Look at Acura- wtf happened there? Bean counters ruined their mojo 20 years ago.

Hi, I'm in the 'planning to get one' market, and have just been a participant on the boards because the car interests me. Have I said or done anything to offend? I've test driven a few Type R's, I'm familiar with the lackluster infotainment / head unit. That also isn't some dark secret on the boards either, with so many people working to improve things with speaker changeouts and hacking the head unit.

For not owning the car, I sure know a lot though huh? I guess being an enthusiast, is, and should always be, enough.

No offense, hopefully you will finally get your CTR at or below MSRP, or a good used one, and to my taste hopefully it won’t be yellow.

It's definitely way more limited than other Hondas. Every dealership in my area gets maybe 2 a year. I'm confident it's limited enough to retain resale value stronger than normal production cars. I paid MSRP for mine.

Idk about you guys but if lane keep/honda sensing was an 800 dollar option, I wouldn't tick that box.

A volume knob as a 1500 dollar option on the other hand...

Autotrader has some 252 used Type Rs nationwide listed with all but 4 over 30k resale with the mean around 34K its astounding to see that after 3 years some of these cars have only lost 6K in total value i see these Rs only appreciating in value.
