I think we are referring to two different retractings.

First is the little amount of retracting done by releasing the parking brake.

At this point were you able to push the piston in directly without doing the next step?

Second is the larger retracting done by using a scan tool or manually turning the E11 torx screw/bolt after removing the motor. This has to be done when worn pads are being replaced by new thick ones.
It seems some are having luck reversing the piston and all associated hardware (including the EBP actuator). I understand the concern in doing so, particularly with the actuator. So the logic in removing that component makes sense to me.

A quick lookup online shows that these motors aren't cheap either.

I just got my Autel ap200 today and was successful in putting the car into rear brake maintenance mode. You can physically hear the piston retracting. Once you’re done with the brake job, you put it back to normal mode and turn the car off and on. Make sure you’re on level ground and the e brake is off, and your foot off the brake.

I was hoping this self-contained hardware unit would support our cars, but I got an answer from them and they said no.

Diaglink MD802 NOT COMPATIBLE WITH CTR
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GWSLPNY?ref_=pe_623860_70668690_dpLink

This is even though it lists Honda and EPB support. They suggested other, more expensive units:

Dear Customer,
Sorry that MD802 cannot do EPB for 2018 honda civic.
You can refer to MX808, DS808 or Maxisys series for EPB on your car.

With kind regards,
Cheryl Zhu / Global Tech Support
Interestingly, the AP200 is advertised as the phone-based version of the MX808 which they recommended.

Autel AP200, as a mini-sized smartphone-compatible (Bluetooth) version of MK808 & MX808
So I'm going with the AP200 for now, but over time I expect them to update the MD802 to have the functionality.

Thanks for this. In looking at this more, I think I'd agree that this should be considered "required" for rear brake maintenance. Or at least, removing the actuators to prevent possible damage.

I made this video just for you. However, it does NOT show the setup steps you must take beforehand. It is outlined in the manual that you must download the MaxiAP200 and Diag-Asia apps, then in MaxiAP200 you need to create an account, then scan or enter your dongle's serial number. Then you get to choose one free brand of car you get to download. I chose Honda of course. Once all that is done, then this video will help you.

Thanks for this - I guess the wiring could have gotten dislodged from the connector, but I didn't notice if it did. I'll have to take a closer look.
So I thought I would post an update, that about 2 or 3 weeks after posting the EBP error ceased for good. It must have eventually reset somehow. I would probably pick up one of these Autel devices ahead of doing the next job.

It's so strange that the AP200 works and the bigger nonwireless one such as the diaglink does not support EPB retraction for the 10 gen civics.
Bizarre.

Just to follow up, @Gansan was the answer to your question regarding the diaglink answered by the autel people? Or was it from another amazon customer?

Thanks this is just what I was looking for. I just picked this up in Canada and it works like a charm to retract the parking brake.

You only need to put the car ignition to on, but you don’t start the car. Just press the start button twice without your foot on the clutch. First press turns on accessory mode, second press turns ignition on but doesn’t start the engine.
