Decided to put this in a new thread because it's so much info.

I have some existing offers from dealers that I would be happy to refer if anyone's interested, these will be time-sensitive (got them 11/12):
  • Lewisville, TX. Silver Touring. Has $1098 adds already (tint, splash, pinstripe, locks, tray). "500 off MSRP and show the adds" I didn't ask what he meant by show because I moved on from the silver. He's practically desperate to make a sale, I test drove with him to decide on the Touring.
  • Burleson, TX. Black Touring. $26,995 + $795 adds (tint, splash, pinstripe, locks, tray). Very straightforward salesman.
  • Austin, TX. Silver Touring. MSRP + $640.20 adds (tint, splash, locks, tray). White Touring (in transit) MSRP no adds.
  • Lufkin, TX. MSRP - $500. Plus TT&L drive out is $28,872.52.
  • Tulsa, OK. Grey Touring. MSRP.
Please email me at [email protected] if you're interested in any of these and I will give you their contact info and screenshots of their offers to use. I didn't want to post the salesperson's contact info publicly.

What I paid

I was looking for a Touring in Modern Steel Metallic (grey). I live in Dallas, TX and wanted to get a good deal. Unfortunately it was a little hard to find the grey here.
I researched the online inventory of 74 dealers within 500 miles or so of me by going to their sites and looking for 2016 Civics. Then I emailed quote requests to 12 of them that had a Touring (any color) in stock. Not a lot had Tourings, but quite a few seemed eager to sell them.
I ended up going with David McDavid Honda of Frisco. They have a grey Touring assigned (said less than 30 days to delivery), so I had some wiggle room on the adds. I put down a $500 deposit for it.

Agreed to:
  • MSRP
  • $1 for tint, wheel locks, and a cargo tray. They only charged me a dollar for the adds because their order system wouldn't accept $0?
  • $-500 for trade in (I include this here because it lowers sales tax)
  • Sales tax $1,677.25 (Texas 6.25%)
  • Doc Fee $180
  • Non Tax TT&L Fees $246
Total out the door $28,939.46 after $500 trade-in.

My credit union is doing 3.55% for a 60 month term. Payment $513.45, total interest will be $2,617.36, for a total financed amount of $30,806.82. I'm going to pay it off much earlier than that, but I wanted the flexibility of the longer term. My Credit Union doesn't have an early payoff fee.

It's not the absolute best deal, but it's decent for so new on the highest trim. I paid extra over some of the offers for the color I wanted and the convenience of not having to drive to Oklahoma to get my color. I'm pretty burnt out from the process and don't want to drive that far!
For one the TT&L fees are 1/3 what I found elsewhere. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of wiggle room for my trade-in because it's a 99 Accord. It'll definitely be wholesaled. I might look in to a private sale beforehand now that I have some time. The time aspect of waiting a few weeks is actually very convenient for me right now. I'm finishing up my final semester of college and I should probably focus on that and not a car.

Spreadsheet!

I used a giant spreadsheet to keep track of the 74 (!) dealers.
It has:
  • Every 2016 Civic on the lot (listed online) for most of those 74 dealers
  • Breakdown of the trim levels and their features
  • Breakdown of Honda Sensing features
  • Trim pricing and selector that makes it easy to compare prices
  • Sheet to calculate taxes and fees
  • Sheet to calculate finance and payments
  • Sheet to select different rates and terms to compare
  • Color listing
I cleaned it up a bit and removed personal info:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13bHXb4txNvTUlOCUi6paD7d8KT1JPFTX9pOA-3PfmwY/edit?usp=sharing
You should be able to save a copy of this and change the values. Let me know if you have any questions on it.

Wow you put in some work. I'm waiting for the coupe but this should be a great resource for guys on here looking for a sedan. Wish someone would put something like this together for the coupe (when it's available). Good job man.

You must be a math, stats, econ, or finance major :)

Impressive work and congrats on ordering. MSRP + the free addons is good for this early in the game. Did you take delivery yet?

You can save this as a copy and change the values pretty easy once the pricing info is released. Can even change the trim names and it should "just work."

BS ITS, I work a lot with Excel. Pretty useful to plan stuff like this, and the salespeople seem a bit off-put when I pull out a netbook and start crunching numbers.
No delivery yet, still being manufactured. Most of the stock I could find near Dallas is white and black for some reason. They said a few weeks.

To each his own. Also depends how you look at it. You can look at it like an overpriced $30k Civic or a reasonably priced competitor to entry level luxury cars, which is what the Touring is. It matches up well in specs, quality, and even better styling than some $30k+ cars like the ILX and 320i.

Congrats OP!

Having sold luxury cars, $29K out the door for a Civic Touring, with all the features, drive, quality, mpg, etc, it offers is a great value.

Luxury cars, by the simple reason they exist, is about brand recognition. And the reality is if you really want to see a big difference in what you are getting in a car premium brand, you have to pass entry level luxury (3 Series, A4, C-Class) and go straight for MB E-Class territory.

There is no luxury car under $50k today that gives you a more complete package than a Civic Touring. Numbers and feature lists dont lie.

But for consumers who care about brand recognition (the badge up front), yes, a $29k Civic will never be on their radar.

Good post. But from the sounds of it, this generation of Civic will move the model a bit upmarket in people's mental note of what a Civic stands for.

I did a quick lookup in the Dallas area. Fleet dealers are selling for the following prices as of today:
- Touring: 25,939 (1396 off MSRP)
- EX-L w/ no options: 23,321 (1214 off MSRP)
- EX-T w/ no options: 21,918 (1117 off MSRP)
- EX auto w/ no options: 20,833 (1042 off MSRP)
- LX auto w/ no options: 19,337 (938 off MSRP)
- LX 6MT: 18,589 (886 off MSRP)

These have less to do with what they have on inventory and more to do with what they can get once available. In my experience, at new model launch, the trim/color you want will usually come up within 2-3 weeks.

Brilliant! I also live in Dallas and am in the market for pretty much the same car. I'll still do my own research obviously, but this will give me a pretty accurate idea of what to expect. Thanks for posting!

So if I stuck an Accord badge on it instead of Civic would you buy it? Did you expect to get all those features for 20k? Don't get me wrong, but people who think like that are stuck in an age 10 years ago and it tells me they need to get up to speed with time. To judge a vehicle, and its price based on name alone is a shortsighted thing to do. The market/features for this class of car will ONLY move up due to competition and you better believe it. Inflation is also going to drive up the price in the class. Hell, you make more money right now than back in 2005 right?

The sensible thing to do is to determine the vehicle's value factor. You get the nice stereo, led headlights, full leather/power seats, heated rear seats and navi on the Touring for only 2k more than the EX-T in Canada. The headlights are worth 2k in parts alone... I remember on my mom's 2007 CRV, the jump from the EX-L to EX-L Navi was 3k, and what did you get for 3k? The touchscreen navi with crusty graphics, bluetooth for the sake of the original iPhone, and nothing else...

I admit the Civic is one heck of a bargain. It's got the next gen Accord chassis and better fuel economy to boot. Technically, it's now a mid sized car based on interior volume.

Anyone paying attention to the market has known that automakers gradually move their models upstream over time. I swore off the Si 8 years ago because it didn't have the refinement or features I could find in a similarly priced VW or Mazda. These days the margin is paper thin.

CN: Value proposition of the Civic has evolved.

Having just bought a 2016 Accord ex-l v6 and test driving a Touring Civic and the Accord back to back, I will say this. While the Civic is MUCH improved over the previous generations, the Accord is still on another level of refinement.

I got to sit in an Accord V6 with Honda Sensing (not sure of trim level) to see if I liked the sensing features. It is definitely nicer and has a few more features.

One thing I disliked though is how busy the experience is. There were two dashboard screens, so many buttons, and a whole bunch of lights on my driver dash (especially using sensing). I really felt overwhelmed with information. I'm definitely not an enthusiast (hence why I'm getting a 4dr Touring sedan!) or a purist. When I got behind the wheel of the Touring it felt much more minimalist, and refined in its own way. The digital displays are smart, clear, and don't show me too much information. I like that about it.
