I disagree. Floor mats are not supposed to be throw away items every 25k miles. I’ve had plenty of vehicles and I always maintain them. I’ve never seen floor mats wear out so fast. Like I said before, I had an Isuzu rodeo that had over 200k miles with original mats that still had no holes and very little wear. Also has my Chevy Silverado with over 200k miles with original mats with no holes and minimal wear. But these Honda mats I couldn’t believe it, wore out in 25k miles. So I guess I should just been replacing them every 25k miles?! I don’t think so. They are defected

This is what my driver's side floor mat looks like today at 45,400 miles on my '17 LX. The hole started quite a while ago, like yours, probably around 25K. Why Honda would use such flimsy floor mats makes no sense. Plus the carpeting behind the pedals has worn through and the stuffing is falling out. This is beyond belief. Honda makes such high-quality drive trains and my car is tight as a drum. Why cheap out on something that should last many more years? Anyway, I put some heavy black tape on both sides of the hole and will see if that holds up. BTW, I don't want to buy a set, either 4-piece or 2-piece, as the other mats are fine. If I can get over to a junk yard, maybe I can find a wrecked 10th-gen Civic and pull the mat.

Yeah I went ahead and ordered some all weather floor mats. That way I don’t have to worry about getting new mats every 25k miles. So far I like my new mats. They were on sale for 100 bucks a set. Here is a link if you want to check them out https://www.[site banned for spam]/honda-civic-2016-2019-floor-mats-full-set-3-mats

An obvious item where they could cut costs. Having the mat wear prematurely is not going to stop you from buying another Honda.

Just buy some inexpensive clear plastic mats and layer them atop the Honda mats. The plastic protects the carpet from significant wear and you can still see the carpet below.

They saved money on the mats. They also saved money on the carpet throughout the car. Some of the lowest quality carpet I've seen in Hondas.

I paid less than $18K for my new 2016 Civic LX. You can't sell a new car for that price unless you cut costs throughout. Floor mats offer obvious opportunities for cost cutting.

I wore a hole in my weathertech mat in about a year so maybe it's not unusual.

I totally understand the cutting cost idea, but cutting quality I don’t. Honda will just have to address this problem on the upcoming models. I know the carpet and floor mats might not seem like a big deal to some. But when somebody buys a brand new car and they buy a Honda because it’s supposed to be a quality product. Well when the carpet starts falling apart prematurely. They might decide to buy something else next time. Why should they be putting more money into a brand new car?

On the other hand, it's nice that Honda includes floor mats at all unlike some other brands.

Also, many buyers (like myself) chunk the carpet mets in the garbage soon after purchase and replace them with all-weather mats.

Personally, I'd rather Honda not include mats at all since I'm probably being "forced" to pay $5 for the carpet mats that I turn right around and throw in the garbage.

Yeah and maybe giving an option for some high quality carpet mats for a small fee. I prefer carpet mats, which is why I was upset that the original custom fit mats started falling apart. I had no choice but to go with plastic mats. Don’t get me wrong, I like my new mats. But I still prefer the look of the original carpet mats. I would’ve paid extra for quality mats if they told me the free mats would fall apart after 25k miles

I’m still using the same set of Honda all-season floor mats that I used in my ‘16 LX sedan for three years. I never use the carpeted mats. They’ve been in a cabinet since the first day I brought the car home.

Only takes 20k miles to wear a hole clean through them and begin damaging the floor carpeting

Mats are a wear item, but they should not wear out in just a few thousand miles. My Civic mats were getting signs of excess wear in 3,000 miles. I didn't want to have a hole so I bought aftermarket ones.

The factory Civic floor mats are the lowest quality I've ever had. I NEVER had to replace floor mats in any car I had, & I've had quite a few. My wife had a 1989 Toyota Camry for 29 years with the factory carpet mats & never wore a hole through them.

You guys really need to go JDM style. This wouldn’t even be a 7 page thread if you guys go aluminum. Try to poke a hole through these floor mats.

Floor mats are a wear item designed to protect the carpeting. The hole in the carpeting is YOUR fault for neglecting to maintain the floor mats by replacing them. At least Honda gives you some kinda of floor mat -they used to be optional! This is like blaming Honda for using poor quality rotors because they were damaged by failure to replace the brake pads. :)
Besides the harsh tone, your answer doesn't cut it for another reason. I've had 4 Hondas and 4 Toyotas in my lifetime and don't remember a floor mat wearing through like that so early. This mat is of inappropriately low quality and so is the carpeting behind the pedals, which is also falling apart and which is not a "wear item." And no, I don't wear spikes on my shoes or anything sharp.
