the best I've heard was when my girl said it's "a bag of dicks on wheels" lmfaooo. now she loves the R and wants to take it everywhere
Love it - reminds me of DJ Shadow's (fet. RTJ) "Nobody Speak" every time someone mentions "a bag of dicks"

The car is not "rice" (I hate that term, always feels racist since it's a call back to Japanese stereotypes and ill will towards non-domestic products/autos), nor is it R.I.C.E... But I understand why people would throw around that word since it's so integrated into the auto crowd.

Any ways, I too have surprised people with the fact that it's OEM. Honestly, it's getting a lot of attention in automotive news, but not everyone is a gearhead, so you're going to get people who shake their heads at silly modified vehicles and lump the CTR in there due to the tick boxes of "rice":

1) Is it a Japanese vehicle
2) Does it have a big wing
3) Does it have big wheels
4) Is it low to the ground
5) Does it have flashy, non-subtle styling and ground effects
6) Is it loud

etc...

Is it just me, or does OP not have a CTR? why is this in the CTR section?

Maybe itā€™s an Si, to look like a CTR? Or a regular sedan/hatchback? Maybe thatā€™s where the rice comment came from? I dunno.

His avatar, which I assume is his car, is not a CTR. Front bumper doesnā€™t have those 4 vertical air inlets on either side. Not a wide body front bumper.

English is my 2nd language so I dont always understand slang properly.
I have a type R, fully wrapped, with hks IC with hks stencil painted.
it has all bolt on and catback exhaust, so it is kind of loud if I step on it.
I have 20" aftermarket rims.. a random guy at the gas station today came up to me said that what a rice, civic.

I feel offended but I didnt act up... as I honest not sure if he is trying to insult?!
what would you guys do if that happens to you.

again, english is not my 1st language

Maybe English is not their first language and they tried to say nice "Race Car" but sounded like Rice?

Good call out. But still FBO hatches can make decent power.

But power was never even brought up. In this day and age, everyone and their dog has 230-250hp, or can do simple mods to get there. Is it good for hauling ass? Yeah absolutely. But that doesnā€™t mean itā€™s not rice all at the same time.

He has a CTR, it's under his name. He also has another civic. (on another forum I still have an avatar that's a car I sold 4 years ago)

Ok, so we are defending a car which we donā€™t even know what it looks like. Nor do we even know which model OP is specifically referring to.

The type R is considered a bit rice since some cosmetic aspects go above and beyond practicality but if you like the look than who gives a damn. Guaranteed he had a slow car

The term is racist, no two ways about it.

Besides that, I like wings and spoilers and wide tires, but only if used to lower lap times. I think people mistake some of these modifications on real track cars for fake modifications, when they actually do add performance.

Here's an S2000 with real performance modifications that looks great to me because those mods make it fast:

Here's an S2000 that is trying to be tasteful, but just looks awful to me because I'm sure it handles worse at that ride height and the fender flares on the rear don't make sense because they add grip in the rear without adding grip in the front.

Here's another practical and tasteful track car.

Here's another good one:

And a bad one:

Scissor doors only belong on a Lamborghini Iā€™ll accept a two door but I have to laugh when they put them on a sedan

He probably couldnā€™t afford the ā€˜riceā€™ car.
Seriously only people that say that kind of stuff usually donā€™t even have a nice car to begin with.

he probably doesnā€™t know what a type R is. Saw civic, big wing, loud exhaust and automatically went digging into his short
small of generic responses.
You sure about that? Ive seen plenty of members use this term freely

I use rice to describe the R as a joke, "The car so rice that its nice". I'd argue that it's not rice cause all the parts on it (wing, aero) are functional, though I'm not going to pretend the looks are bold.

I believe the full word for "rice" is "rice burner". In the 60 and 70, us Americans were comparing Japanese cars to rice burner. Over the year, it becomes just "rice"..
rice stands for "race inspired cosmetic enhancements" I thought
