Bought a '19 a few weeks ago. I stopped into the dealer yesterday (purchased the tire/wheel protection for pothole protection) and they had another '19 on the showroom floor. Said they were hoping for a '20 but it was "going to be a couple of months".

I mean of course they're gonna say they know nothing about the 2020s otherwise they wouldn't be able to move their 2019s

2020s have gone up in price across the board. Type r is a limited production and the last 2019s have already shipped. The only dealerships having trouble moving them are the ones charging over sticker. Your logic sounds good, but you're incorrect. Again, I'm not here to talk shop. Im simply letting you know there's no 20s coming any time soon.

If they make substantial changes to the CTR for 2020, it will suck for everyone who owns a 2017-2019.

It'll kill our resale value by a few thousand bucks, as everyone will want the best of the best. It was the same for the 1st gen NSX- the last few years skyrocketed in price and dropped the value of the older cars.

A 1997 Integra Type R has more value than the refreshed 98, 00-01 ITR.
Our value is only less due to the production numbers of the FK8.

There's always smth newer better.
According to that logic one won't buy anything always wondering about the next model.
Good prices will fetch cars in their right minds. Aka fully original. If you can refrain from transforming it into a Frankenstein. If you care about resale price.

I can certainly be wrong, it would just feel like an odd choice for Honda.
Really? Have you not seen the Si’s orange last gen, green this gen, and toxic yellow for the current Si? Honda always makes odd choices with colors to experiment or whatever. Or to sprinkle the used market with rarer and higher-valued models.

Crazy colors on the Si is different then the R though. Considering the fairly reserved pallet we have now it would be an interesting choice. We only have SGP because it was already on the hatch.

I could be wrong, but a blue like described would be, pun intended, out of the blue.

That doesn't make sense. How can increasing the MSRP have a negative effect on the value of used cars? Quite the opposite. If Honda increases the MSRP of the TypeR by, say, $10 grand, you're saying that the value of our cars will go down?

BTW, I had a 1991 NSX (1st year) that I bought new and sold it a couple of years ago for more than what I paid for it...

If it's any consolation, I talked with a guy from Reddit who claimed to work at the factory in the UK, and he mentioned the 2020 would be a "S2000 CR" type blue... This is a coincidence if so?

You're absolutely right; Honda has never done loud Type R only colors before.

I don't mean to say that they'd never do a loud color. To me it would be odd to add another blue, when Phoenix Yellow already has Type R history and people have been clamoring for it since the CTR came out. Again, I don't work for Honda or have any connections, it would just be an odd choice if Honda was going to add a new color to the CTR lineup is all.

Apex Blue Pearl is pretty close to that kind of blue, so maybe it is that?

Again, I can be wrong, but adding a loud blue, to me, would just be an odd choice. Maybe they're just trying to match what the competition has had? The Focus RS and STI both had that kind of blue as an option at one point.

The same way a new NA2 was going for way more money than a new NA1. Let's be honest. All the NA2 gained was some different colours, 0.2L of displacement more and an extra gear. And those cars sell for 30-40k more than a NA1. I've only had experiences with NA2s, but I've read numerous times that the NA1 is more enjoyable to drive with only 5 gears.

You also held on to your NA1 for three decades. Prices have gone to the shitter since, only to spend the last decade climbing in value. That's not typical of most cars.

You think I'm crazy, but there's no better evidence than comparing the last year of the NA1 to the first year of the NA2. There is a huge price gap between the two.

And why would the CTR jump in price by 10k? It would then be a very limited run model, like the Subaru S209. I don't believe that is the path the CTR is taking. Why would Honda kill sales of the CTR in its final year and go from 10000 units in a year world wide, to what, a couple hundred?

If anything, it looks like Honda created an entry level CTR (the small wing version) below the CTR we all have now, to keep CTR sales floating. It's the final model year of the Civic. Like with every other generation before it, by the last two years of production sales numbers are slowing big time. Honda generally releases models to sustain the sales as long as possible. Jumping 10k in MSRP would destroy that.

I guess it's all speculation until we hear otherwise.

Again, if this has any weight in the conversation what so ever (which is to be taken with a grain of salt) he mentioned the blue will be the "new color" for the "GT" model if you will, with the Phoenix Yellow being a track variant of the car, stripped to the bones (he said no AC which I find hard to believe in a 2020) with CF roof, and lighter wheels, etc.

lol yeah no offense meant to you by any means but this is getting into "my uncle works at Nintendo and told me x" territory. Going from 1 trim to 3, including a model that is so stripped down it doesn't have AC seems like a bit much considering they haven't done that for the R in any other model.
