Just had this code come on today. 2 yrs 4 months of diving 26000 km (16500 miles) Mainly hwy. driving and not hard on brakes at all. 15% for an oil change and brake fluid. In reference to the oil change, 1 yr will be up until Dec 12th. which is normal.

My Questions:

Is it a 2-year thing? (Brakes services)

Honda Dot 3 or Napa Heavy Duty DOT 3? (both state heavy-duty brake fluid) and how much used (1 liter?)

Also, Service brakes Code 9 which is a lot of inspections and take then apart clean, lube and put then back together again.

I agree with the brake service I had a vehicle rear brake sized after 3 yrs.

The only question I have an answer to is the fluid - Honda insists on the OEM Honda DOT3 fluid. Apparently there is some kind of risk of other fluids causing corrosion and potentially voiding warranty because of it?

From the bit of internet reading I've done, it seems the brake fluid and the coolant are the fluids that should stay OEM.

That is, unless you're chasing performance and want to use some DOT4 fluid or some kind of surfactant in the coolant. Maybe if you're swapping things like brake parts, the master cylinders, radiator, etc.

I agree however I think and also the Class A mechanic am using thinks that you don't have to change the brake fluid @ 2 years and use Dot 3 fluid and he agrees that Honda did that on the Maintainance Minder for the Dealerships. He thinks maybe the 3yr. change is a little more appropriate.

I had the Service Ft & Rear Brakes and Chassis Inspections done at a local Class A garage for a lot less than the Dealerships want to charge you. Next year I will have the Brake fluid changed at my local Honda dealership.
