Since the U.S. Si doesn't come with a temporary tire, I am looking to buy a 5th wheel to take with me on long road trips should an un-patchable puncture occur. I figure since this wheel will rarely (if ever) be used, I might as well look for a lightweight option so it doesn't weigh down my trunk too much. If I decide to look at ordering one online I figure I would see if anyone here has a good recommendation for a lighter full-size rim that will fit a typical Civic. Any suggestions?

I used a 17" spare from 05-12 Acura RL...its an alloy, not steel, and with the tire that came on TL, its really close to the same diameter as our Si wheel/tire combo. So you get a full diameter spare, albeit thinner, that you can use without worry about LSD or hopefully TPMS. Without sacrificing all the trunk space.

That sounds like a really good option. I'm leery about throwing on just any old rim in case it doesn't clear the larger front brakes on the Si, and to keep the overall balance even. Good to know an older RL spare has been tested, I'll be sure to keep an eye out for one.

those white OZ wheels from your link are perfect, was thinking about getting rpf1 and powdercoating white but I changed my mind
Always glad to help a fellow wheel addict spend their children’s inheritance.

There used to be a kit you could order from Honda that had the typical narrow steel wheel spare, jack, etc but I think its discontinued (06421-TBJ-A00ZA)

You can buy the parts separate:
wheel 42700-TX4-A51
floor bolt 74652-SDA-003 adapter(cone shim) 74651-S2X-003
11 tool box assembly (foam piece) 84545-TBJ-C00
tire 42751-MAX-004 (T125/70D17) 98M Maxxis
jack 89310-S5A-013
wrench 89211-SE3-003
jack bar 89320-TBA-A01

I got only the first 2 items, plus a tire for it since I had a jack and lug wrench to use.

i'm doing this now actually. but for me no. 1 was had to be cheap. ending up just getting some cheap steelie off amazon.
no. 2 was i wanted thin as possible. no.3 was 17 or 18. the steel wheel i chose in 5x114.3 -- 6.5 x 17" in diameter. ordered the center rings to match, they weigh in at 20.5 lbs. have not done a test fit yet. the thinnest full duty tire i could find to fit was 205. this will be about an inch narrower. ( lil more trunk room) vs 235 40 18's.
now i'm trimming out the trunk to match a big hole, and trying to figure out what color to paint the spare wheel- red or yellow.
couple of week from being done anyways.

cheap ok wheel check out avid1. my 18x8's are 22lbs. and 75 bucks more than the doorman steel wheel.

no factory trim will be altered in my project, ---- i'm not cutting a big ass hole in the trunk trim. making a new one. it will have a big ass hole in it.

For the (hopefully) rare cases I might need to use my full-size spare, would driving on it for a short time without a hub-centric ring cause any damage? At least, any more than if I were driving on a donut temporary tire instead?

No, hub rings aren’t load-bearing. Just make sure to apply proper even torque in a star pattern on all lugs and recheck after 50 miles.
