Picked up one of the mishimoto intakes, I know it's been around for some time now but I've been having trouble to find anyone that runs it without the cover on? Just curious if you get a ton of heat soak or the box that still surrounds the filter keeps it down, or if there are any other negatives to having it off

I've been running without a box for about a year. Havent really done comparisons, however, I'm not sure it would make a difference when temps outside were 105. During the summer, my IAT1 averaged 145 and IAT2 averaged 120. I did not do readings with the box on. Now its cooler here in SoCal, I plan to leave it off.

Cool cool good to hear, I'm on the east coast so it's getting down to 50s and 60s now this time of year so shouldnt be to bad I would assume

I have done extensive testing with the mishi intake. My suggestion is to leave it alone.

Fuel trims go ape shit with the lid off with hotter temps. Less power than stock box due to that. Only benefit with lid off is better sounds.

Yeah that was a concern as well was fuel trims, I called mishi and they said it will not affect them but I was still a little skeptical. I do enjoy the sound but not worth that

Trying to make sense of why you would want the cover off - I presume sound? With the cover on as it should be IAT's are 5-10f up from ambient, which is as good as the other popular choice intakes i've compared to

Correct, I wanted an intake that was of quality so it didnt mess up my fuel trims and such like I've heard the injens do, which is why I went with mishimoto to run on a stock tune. Just lacks a bit of sound I would like

Could you post a pic of your setup?

Hey guys, I was going to post a new thread but I might as well ask here since its related to the intake. I've noticed the last few days driving home on the highway my MPG has dropped an average of 4-6, I was getting 40-42 and now I'm hovering around 36. My driving style has not changed and I've kept the lid on as designed. I wasnt sure if there is a reason for this or common, I've usually seen people get better mpg not typically worst.

You up north? Winter blend gas hitting the pumps is a likely culprit.

I'm in southern NH so yeah I would consider that, the last time I looked at my mpg was probably a month ago. I have no way to check fuel trims and such so just hoping it's running right on the stock tune as it should
