ERROR CODE P0720

Had the transmission fluid changed and got error code p0720, output speed sensor malfuntion, on my way home so they replaced it. Car was driving fine and the sensor broke again. Any ideas what could be causing this? Was supposed to be a simple fluid change now im out a car for 3 days since no local dealers have the part. THANK YOU!

Do you have any reason to believe the sensor may have been removed during the fluid change? While there is no reason to, if they removed it and re-installed it without the washer, the sensor will break off inside the transmission. There is at least one forum member that had this happen during a clutch install and it cost them the transmission.

It sounded like he told me the reason the sensor broke was because his tech did not remove the sensor to change the fluid. Does the sensor breaking again sound like something broke off in the transmission? Is there anything i should mention to the tech?

Anyone have any info? Right now I’m sitting here thinking my transmission is totaled from a fluid change.

No... only that there's a drain and a full plug that both take a 3/8" square and I don't see why anyone would ever remove a speed sensor to do a drain and fill.

Whatever happens... it resulted from preventative maintenance the the dealer is liable to fix the issue.

Update - got my car back from the shop seems to have no issues. They said it was just a fluke that it broke twice :dunno:

Just happy tranny is ok!!

Yes the shop fixed it that weekend. Haven't had issues since then.
Thanks for the reply. Mine acted up since last Sunday, and I already made 3 trips to my Honda Dealership. It pointed out to a speed sensor near transmission. What they did is reset the system. I told them why not replace it. They told that they're not sure if it's really the culprit because my errors can be a glitch since I changed my battery at home (thus gave system errors). Imagine that!
