I would try a different store
I may call again to see if I get a different customer service rep. This was Tire Rack's customer service number.

I live where there is very heavy snow for many months of the year, no problems with the stock tires, learn how to drive and handle snowy conditions
You are endangering not only yourself and your passengers but everyone on the road if you're driving on the stock summer only tires in the winter. The manual specifically states that the stock tires should not be used under 40 degrees. Not only is there the obvious issue of traction with a summer compound but the sidewall can also crack as well.

Guys, it's all good. He "knows how to drive and handle snowy conditions".

Clearly your summer tires are cracking in the cold because you need more seat time.

I’m running the Motegi 19’s on the Conti dws06 255-35-19. I run them all year, they handle the winter just fine here in Chicago

my stock tires ARE NOT SUMMER TIRES,

they are ALL SEASON/WEATHER TIRES which is what i use them for

i have never used snow tires in my 25+ years of driving

so no, i am not endangering anybodies lives by using my tires for what they are made for

saying i shouldn't be using my tires in the winter, would be the same as saying i shouldn't be using them in the summer.....both statements are untrue
if your stock tires are all seasons then you do not have a Type R, as this is the type R sub-forum this would cause the confusion. Summer tires are a big no no for winter, but no one said that about all seasons

I'm hoping the Michi PS AS3+ (what the OP is trying to replace) gives me similar results in Chicago. The Nitto NeoGen that I had before were garbage in the snow.

Coming into the Type R thread with that much smugness. Love it.

I hope that they work out better for you. Traction was great, but somehow they ended up chopped. Can that happen due to a defective tire? Not sure.

It can happen due to cheap materials used on a tire which in this case I'd consider a defective tire. Most point towards suspension, alignment, etc. being the case, but it's not impossible that it would be a defective tire (or a tire not up to spec).

Edit: I did have a small vibration in the passenger-side front wheel, but haven't been able to see any chopping on them and it doesn't affect the ride. I have maybe 5-6k miles on them now.

Thanks for the heads up. My winter wheels are Motegi 19" unfortunately.
You totally should get a warranty adjustment from Michelin on those tires.

I've ran several sets of Continental DWS06 on my 2014 SI and one set now on by 2019 CTR. I like these tires very much. The way I drive I never get the expected number of miles, but if you go to the trouble to return them for the mileage warranty adjustment, Michelin or Continental should give you the percentage you didn't get on the tires in $$ back. I used up a set of Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ in 21,000 miles (45,000 warranty) on the Type R and got back $497 when I returned them. The current set of Continental DWS06 looks to be lasting about 25,000 (50,000 warranty) and they will do the same. I always get my tires through TireRack.com and TireRack makes the warranty return and issuing the credit quite painless. I just stack up the old unmounted tires outside my front door; TireRack issues the UPS call tag and UPS shows up and picks them up.

Unfortunately Tire Rack essentially accused me off causing the tires (with just over 1000 miles on them) to become chopped. Letting them know that I had the alignment checked and it was perfect didn't change anything - they were insistent that chopping is never covered.

I wonder if it's possible to have the rubber mechanically worn down to smooth out the surface?

I hope my tires hold up. I put the 245/35/20 Michelin PS3 A/S on the OEM wheels a few weeks back. So far they are great.
