Got Screwed on a Set of Michelin Pilot A/S 3+. What should I get now?

I bought a set of Michelin pilot AS 3+ for my type R that I picked up new in February. I only have around $1,000 miles on the tires, but apparently they're already heavily chopped.I drive the car relatively normally, with the occasional higher speed off ramp. I had my alignment checked and it's almost perfect, which is to be expected from a brand new car. Yet despite that fact, all four tires seem to be badly chopped and caused vibration at any speed over 50 mph. Tire rack has refused to do anything for me, and of course Michelin is blaming the car. Screw them both, they'll never get another dime from me.

question is, which tire should I buy now? I've heard good things about continental DWSO6, but I'm wondering if I shouldn't just get dedicated winter tires instead. Problem is, I have another 2 months of relatively dry pavement, but with temperatures below 40, so I can't use my summer tires. Can I drive winter tires in a spirited manner? Or will driving them on dry pavement just ruin them?

I had the Continental DWS06. I ran a 235/45/R18 and the ride was comfortable, minimum road noise, good in the rain. They were great in the dry as well but cornering felt mushy since the sidewalls were on the softer side. Definitely a great daily driving tire.

They do make the Continental DWS06 in 19" so they are an option for your Motegis.

To add on the winter tire question, driving spiritedly will generally suck. I actually had dedicated winters installed onto the wheels that I dismounted the Continental DWS06s from, and drove on them for a couple of days this past week when it was in the 60s as I was waiting for another set of wheels and tires to arrive from FedEx. Bascially, steering inputs will be delayed and you will feel like you are driving on marshmellos. You will practically have no confidence in cornering, and the traction control light will constantly be on if you give it a little gas. It is just the nature of winter tires in warmer weather. I immediately took them off once my other set of wheels and tires arrived. I will swap my winters back on once it gets real cold. As long as it is under 40 degrees, winter tires should wear normally in wet or dry pavement. If it gets warm above the 40s, they wear much faster.

I would get a dedicated winter set. I run the falken eurowinter and they are fantastic. I've been running this tire for 3 years (golf R, focus RS, typeR) and they really perform very well for a winter tire. The handling obviously isn't like an ultra high performance summer, but you can certainlty drive spirited with these. Highly recommended and they are pretty cheap.

I've run 4 sets of performance snow tires now (various cars in the past) and 2 sets of regular snow tires. I can't go back to regular snow tires now. The performance snows are very good at avoiding the squishy tread block feeling. They also benefit from not wearing down as fast as snow tires when driven during non snow conditions.

Whoa, I’m having issues with my AS 3+ i had installed about 1000mi ago too. I’ve been trying to narrow down whether it’s the tires, the engine that seems to vibrate the hood into movement just resting at a stoplight, or something else.....it seems to start up around 40mph, and yet, strangely enough, settle back down until 75mph...

wonder if there was a bad batch or something. I’ve had them balanced 3x now

Get some Hakkapelliita's, own the icy roads.

If you paid with a CC, look into whether you have a CC warranty.

Have a tire guy check to see if they have cupping/chopping/feathering.

Warranty on those Michelins ? Or are they staggered setup (no warranty)

I have then on my 911 they are seriously some sticky shit...I like the new general as05? I think not sure but they are great

Drive in snow, you sanctimonious donkey.

I have the stock tires and run them in warm months. Some of us live in climates where the temperature drops below 40 degrees.

I am told that "cupping" isn't covered by the warranty, unfortunately. Even though I have documentation that the alignment is/was perfect and the tread is still practically new.

Either you're trolling or you genuinely have no conception of what happens to the rubber on summer tires when the temperature drops below freezing. I don't know which is worse.

Enjoy driving in winter with your summer tires. Just make sure to stay far away from the rest of us.
