infact there will probably be data from lets say.. months ago.. they will question how come you have zero data and the only data was that of 6 months ago.. where was the car
that’s just one thing they can check. They can see how long since it’s been unplugged etc etc. you will not fool them if there is a major repair so best of luck to you. You likely won’t have a major repair but if you do be ready to pay $$$
how are they going to know how long you had it unplugged? The ECU Doesnt have a clock, or a timestamp for date and time. C'mon now. Let's at least be factual about our fear mongering.

ok dude best of luck. They have a counter of how long it’s been plugged in. If the ecu has been plugged in for 100 miles and the car has 10k on it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out lol

One method we are aware of is that the dealer looks at the OBDII PID for 'distance traveled since DTCs cleared'. This is also reset when the ECU power is removed. So if the distance since DTCs cleared is only a couple of miles then it is possible the ECU has been swapped.

We've also advocated for being up front with the dealer and using a dealer that is 'modification friendly'. For example, last week we did a jailbreak event at First Texas Honda who also sell reflashes and FlashPros.

Do you have a list of such dealers? That would be incredibly helpful.

So the dealer will come in and pay for the motor replacement and turbo replacement if the car is flashed? If so, is this in writing? Because obviously Honda will deny it.

i mean.. i guess hondata is wrong?

we dont need to show you anything... and its not like we are standing there with our phones taking pictures of what they are doing.. lets be realistic here and not be some idiot and say "SHOW ME PICTURES" when shit like this is done behind doors.. its already been said by hondata.. DTC.. no need to prove otherwise..

again, where is the clock, where is the timestamp lol. They are saying they are trying to use mileage driven and then in the same sentence say a battery unplug does the same thing so yeah, hardly proof. would you like me to show you a picture of a clock or a time stamp?

1. dont tune or 2. dont blow your engine up and you wont have this problem right? :)
Yeah basically.

To me, if your going to tune a car, be prepared to take the risk of possible warranty denial and pay for the consequences in the event something goes wrong. If you don't want to, then don't tune it, a clone ecu or not.

If a big enough dmg is done (like shooting a rod through your block), they will send someone out there to take a deep look and will most likely find out. If it's minor work, they might not look so deep and a clone ecu might help you in that situation idk.

New from Hondata - remote cloning ECUs.

If you were considering a spare /cloned ECU, then this process allows you to get a FlashPro ready ECU for your FK8 without removing and sending the factory ECU to Hondata. No downtime and no hassle of sending the ECU in.

See https://www.hondata.com/remote-clone
  1. Order a FlashPro with remote clone to a new jailbroken ECU.
  2. Hondata will ship your FlashPro to you.
  3. Plug in your FlashPro to your vehicle and send Hondata the ECU details.
  4. Hondata will jailbreak a brand new ECU and ship the ECU to you.
  5. Swap ECUs and reflash the new ECU with your FlashPro.
Unfortunately Honda has increased the price of the new ECUs, so the price has gone up $75. Supply of new ECUs is still limited too.

I have the cloned ECU. The Process was very easy. You send your stock ECU Data to Hondata, they upload info to the new ECU. Received the new ECU in one day. Took my time, removed and installed in about 45 minutes. Uploaded the 91 file, runs perfect. Stock ECU is locked up in my safe. Wish I had this option when I had my Golf R, ended up with a Fried tuned ECU. Cost $2500 to replace.

Tried to do it, says my ECU cant be cloned. Contacted Honata, waiting for a response.
