An 84 month loan is incredibly long. I have never heard of somebody taking out a loan for that long on a car.
Bad news, apparently 96 month loans are becoming more common.

I was naive at 72 months but holy hell even I can realize if you have to stretch it that much you cannot remotely afford it.

It wasn’t financially feasible today. I have a closing coming up in 3 weeks and i would be able to put more money down. Like someone said,I’ll revisit the math at that time.
thanks for all the advice
https://www.penfed.org/calculators/payment-saver-calculator

60 month loan rate is 3.99% - at $36,620, your monthly payment would be $443 for a Civic Type R.

Check out the calculator, it's a little buggy but you can see your monthly payment.

Well guys, it didn't happen today. Apparently you can't get a good interest rate on Type R's through Honda financing. Best they offer is like 4.7% something.
yeah told you. honda financial is pretty lame unless your getting one of those cars where they have a special for like 0.9%. They gave me a 4.69% and i have over 800 credit. I wanted the car so i took it but ended up just paying everything off like 6 months later.
Do you gents think stretching out the terms to 84 months at 5% would be senseless? It would get me closer to my desired payment. Maybe I can refinance it for a lower rate after the fact ?
84 months would be ridiculous at 5%. You'd be paying so much for interest. These long term loans are only useful if your getting 0.9-1.9% special rates. edit: and using the money you would've used to pay the car on investments that gives you a higher return than your apr.
Even 72 months feels insane to me. If i take out a loan for my car, it's always 60 months max.

If you have to stretch out your term to 84 months, that imo means that you are not ready to purchase the car yet.

I was reading that the sales of new cars is dropping because of higher prices and people are starting to not be able to afford new cars. Answer: lengthen the loans so payments are cheaper per month.

84 months has a high interest rate and effectively pays your principal off slower. So if like like lots of people you like to trade cars every so many years, most likely before the loan is up, you will not incurred any trade value and will most likely carry negative equity which will make your cars just get more expensive over time. Short answer not a 84 month loan is not the answer if anything it will cause you even more trouble down the road.

Now let me tell you something from my experience with the type R. This will not be popular but I'm gonna say it anyway to maybe get you thinking. Its just a car! A nice car and a fast car for what it is but... it aint all that (ducks from stuff thrown at head lol) I had 4 civics and I went from a Si to a type R. I owned my type R for 2 years. It was amazing I loved it but... something never felt right with it. I started to mod it to "fix" whatever seemed off. IN the long run the car never clicked with me and I sold it. No explanation was just the vibe I had with the car. If you look around there are lots of used and I mean lots of used Rs where people traded them In early and with low miles. Guess it didn't click with them either. Why am I telling you this. Well you trade your Si go further in the hole make 84 month loan end up with 8 years of payments of over 500 or 600, plus insurance, plus a car that only uses the most expensive gas and then dont like the car, then what? You will be stuck without throwing even more money at it to get out of it.

Its a cool car no doubt but there are better and there are cheaper. If you have a house coming up and I assume getting house cause a wife and kids? Maybe going balls deep to get a civic is not the best idea?

Me personally, if I was in your shoes. I would stop modding and "fixing" the Si. Sounds like a money pit. Revert to stock and stop the money flowing out. Hell you might enjoy it stock again. Sell the parts on here or other forums or ebay. Drive it stock for a bit. Save that huge amount of money you keep throwing at the Si toward a new car like the R. I have seen many used ones that are like new on lots at good prices. Mine was mint and sold used for 32,900 at a dealer (guy from florida as a matter of fact bought mine, drove up to SC from FL. to get it cause they are so much cheaper here so a road trip to get one might save you thousands). So used might be an option. You have modded cars so you know what to avoid and look for on a used car. Many R owners treat their cars like gold. So not many beat on ones traded in im sure.

At the end of the day if it causes this much stress over buying a car and every penny means something maybe buying this car is not the right financial decision for you. example I really really wanted a Mustang gt350r ( I know keep comments to self people...you know who you are LOL) Yes I could afford it but it would have stretched things a bit tight. But man I really wanted it. Money wise made no sense had to grow up and walk away.

Sometimes you really really want strawberry or chocolate but you need to settle for vanilla. Save your pennies stop the cash bleed on the Si and if and when they bring a redesign or 11th gen R buy it then.

Anyway not to assume your situation but hope anything I said helps.

Good info here. Thank you for taking the time to write that all out. I’m actually single, 37, condo mortgage is $500, no kids. What I meant by closing is that I am a realtor and am closing on a sale soon, so I am getting a $2,600 commission.
Luckily I am not upside down in my Si. I owe 15k on it. Best offer I got today was $18,250 as it sits. However, my friend has agreed to swap his oem wheels with my enkei’s, plus $500 cash from his side on Tuesday. So it will pay for me to wait a few days. I won’t enjoy the car stock because the high rpm lock out will remain regardless.
So figure $3250 in equity after selling si.
$500 for my wheels
$700? Ktuner and flexfuel kit
$60 PRL intake hose with aem dry flow filter
Now I’m at $5850 after my commission check and can put $1,500 cash down towards a type r. Perhaps I can get closer to my price need if I go through a credit union for better rate ?

Also, my insurance premium will drop with a type r :)

Here’s what I came up with at $37,800 OTD
Might be better finding a used one.
Can someone confirm or deny that the 2017’s had a problem with grinding second gear?

I have 7 grinds in 2-years...some other R owners no grind, and some a lot of grinds. For me, no grind for past 1.5 years.
hope this helps.

Is it more prevalent with the first year production? Did Honda to a revise for newer models?

I think there are less grinding for the 18, as I remember reading some 18's with small amount of grinds...but don't not remember reading any about 19's grinding. So maybe something got changed or fixed in 19, but I'm really sure. The rest forum member maybe know more..

Easy cure for any Honda 6MT grind... ADSMFM... formerly known as GMSMFM.

GM Synchromesh - Friction Modified. They removed GMs name and now it has AC Delco on the bottle. Exact same fluid, though.

Read through the countless reviews on any and every Honda 6MT that was grinding. Acura RSXs, TSXs, Honda Civics, Accords. Plenty of K series engines there, tied to 6MTs. Honda manuals were always notorious for grinds. Now that I think of it- their 5MTs were no better. The same fluid worked on fixing those cars also. Hmmm, even the 6MTs paired to their V6s are known to grind. I’ve owned a few in different platform (Acura and Honda). But the fluid helped every single one of them.

Some people call it a bandaid solution on an inherent design problem. And it doesn’t so much fix the problem, as it only improves your grind scenario. Maybe so. But it works and it’ll allow your transmission to live a very long and happy life. Yeah you might still get the occasional grind. But they’ll be down in numbers, big time.

I think pairing it with the pedal adjustment that I’ve seen floating around on the forum here, you should get to the point of no more grinds.

Honda MT fluid is garbage. Always has been. And even after changing the formula, still is.

This seems accurate from everything I've read as well - Also that pedal fix + fluid seems to be the magic bullet
