Was it under warranty? I am already over 36000 so I may need to pay out of pocket.
Yes, mine was still under warranty. Unfortunately my receipt does not list out prices because of that.

Did anyone have the dealership clean the connector terminals to fix the problem?

I brought mine into the Honda dealership and it ended up being the BCM (Body Control Module). They covered it even though I was out of my warranty.

Nice, yeah seems like that’s what everyone here is having changed. Going to take it into the dealer this week and have them check that out I’ll update with what they find

Last March I was dealing with this issue and I went back and forth with the dealer a couple times til it did it right in the shop. Was also the bcm. Had zero mods at that point and warranty covered it. I'm glad you found the issue because it was a real pain back then. Stupid alarm kept going off in front of the house or at work. Killed the battery. But yeah best of luck since getting it fixed

I have heard of this from a 2016 owner before, and a hack about it - but didn't quiet understood this issue. After reading this thread, I understand it better now. However, this seems to be applicable to 16/17 year.

2018+ doesn't seem to have this issue or vulnerability - based on this. I def. believe it is HONDA's responsibility to resolve this issue free of charged as a recall or file for a lemon.

I have a 2018 for this reason but, wish I waited and got a 19 because of my own paranoia.

Let me know how it all goes for those that are experiencing this - this is a serious issue if it is not resolved whether or not if its a vulnerability from a hack or just being a short, etc...

Hi Jred721,

Yeah just the electronics turn on by itself. It occurs both when I am in the vehicle, and when no keys are in the vehicle.
Several times I will go to my car and the system will be on, or the car will be dead and have to be jumped from being on without
me knowing. I'm currently disconnecting the battery.
This inconvenience - unfortunately is your best guard. I heard about a vulnerability back in 2017 in regards to the Gen 10 Civic 2016+
It seems the vulnerability didn't trickle pass 2017. However, if you have Honda Link or BT setup - be aware... If you can have Honda perform a flash on the computer, that may be best. It be similar to the concept of doing a format/clean wipe on a computer to remove any possible trojan/virus/backdoor/malware - as, the vulnerability is in regards to them touchscreens, BT and/or HondaLink. Sounds like anything that sits on some kind of wireless (BT/WiFI/Location tracker) is where the vulnerabilities reside....

Just curious as well...
Do you have any 3rd party/aftermarket alarm system or sound unit/system?

Anyone with these issues - please take your car to a Honda dealership, show them this thread if you must, and they should be willing to keep your car for a few days to "diagnose" it. (i.e. wait for it to go bonkers)

My situation, I communicated with the dealer about what the car was doing. They agreed to keep the car for a few days to see if they found issues. (It is under warranty, after all) They were nice enough to give me a loaner CRV in the meantime.

Honda had the car for less than 36 hours when the alarm started going off in the middle of a Sunday. Service managers were called in and that's when they actively started trying to figure the car out.

Bottom line, especially if your car is still under warranty, take your car to the dealership and don't accept receipt of your car until they replace the BCM.

The BCM, stands for "Board Control Module" - similar to a PC desktop's motherboard?
If so, sounds like a bad mobo.... Please, let us know on this forum your result/findings and verdict - thanks!

Took it to the dealer and I told them about this thread how other people were having the bcm replaced, tech told me it’s either going to be the ignition switch that thinks it’s being pushed or yeah the body control module since the trigger for the switch goes through there. Couple days later and they tell me it is the body control module that needs to be replaced

Awesome. Seems like this issue on the 17 Si's is almost becoming common knowledge for the dealerships.

With any luck, Honda will create a recall on this model year.

At first they didn’t really think it was the bcm until I told them about this thread and talked to one of the techs, the guys at the front were swearing I wasn’t putting it in park or had a spare key somewhere in the vehicle. Told them to go outside and try to put my car in park when they seen it’s a manual they got quiet real quick and got a technician

Haha! Anyone who's been around Hondas can tell you the Si has always been a stick...
