I am very thankful to all for their replies! Many many thanks. I figured this was not needed as they originally just wanted me to come in for the oil change. :) When I mentioned I did it they then shared be really good to do the brake service for the price indicated. I definitely can do the caliper pins, but is there any link to the steps needed for the car? I can't believe I can't get a Honda shop manual for this vehicle, at least I haven't been able to find one. Any steps or links to a youtube or such would be perfect. And again, thanks to all.

Dave.

In sunny FL I had a 370Z for 10 years and 75K, a daily, and when I traded it for the CTR it had about 50% pads left, and the rotors barely had a lip on them.
But, when I lived in PA, I had to change brakes and rotors about every two? years on my daily. Also the calipers and everything related to braking rusted and the entire arrangement would get wonky.
I don't miss the rust belt.
PS: Lived on a mountain (to me anyway) and worked in the valley, so that was a big contributor, even balancing with engine braking etc.,
didn't make much of a difference.

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned here, rather than just anecdotal evidence, but Honda's maintenance minder tells you exactly which service is required. Your first service should show up as 'A1' which indicates an oil change and tire rotation is required. Now, I'm not saying you can't follow your own service schedule, but assuming you've only seen the 'A1' service pop up, I'd be asking the dealer why they are suggesting a brake service is needed. According to Honda, a 'B' service would indicate a required brake inspection, and this likely hasn't popped up at 6000 miles. If you have indeed not seen a 'B' service indication, I'd be looking for a new dealer to handle your service in the future. Your current dealer is straight up trying to rip you off.

vehicle maint is not rocket science, it has not really changed that much over the years,

i don't take the MM very seriously at all, i can decide for myself when service needs to be done,

the MM (in my opinion) is a sales gimmick, trying to sell procedures that are not really nessessary,

i mean, who rotates their tires after 5,000 miles?

who greases their brake pins after 10-20k miles?

its just a sales gimmick,

i can look at my tires and see when they need to be rotated, i don't need a computer to tell me that,

brakes dont require service until your pads need to be changed, grease the pins then if nessessary

service priorities for these vehicles should be oil changes, tranny changes, and coolant changes, and these should be done by mileage/months intervals, i don't care what the MM says, i know better then a stupid computer does, i can see things with my own eyes, the computer is only estimating things
I'm afraid you may have missed the point of my post. I'm not here to debate the merits or accuracy of the MM system. My point is that this is what Honda uses to determine the service schedule, and it should be the same tool the dealers are using to determine their recommendations. If they are making different recommendations, it would stand to reason that they'd be able to justify why their advice differs from what the Honda engineers have specified in the MM system. It could be that they are also luddites that don't trust the 'stupid computer'. If that is the case, OP can use that knowledge to help decide if he thinks they should be the shop that continues to service his modern day vehicle.

I understand you do your own oil changes but only the dealer has the proprietary left handed screwdrivers needed for brake service.
