I'm planning on doing my first oil change at 600 miles. Currently 400. However I can't really find a solid answer on if that's good or not. All the built motors through my younger years we would change between 600-1000. Is that still a good idea for the break-in? Also I've used Mobil 1 Full synthetic for years and never had an issue. However I see people using Amsoil and 300V Motul. I've used 300V Motul in my all my GSX-R 1000s and it's awesome! Actually makes a few HP just switching to it. What are people using?

Read your manual - I believe Honda has said to not do early intervals and to follow what the maintenance minder says.
When I get home I'll take a look. It's just crazy to me to leave break-in oil for any longer than 1000 miles.

I second GraphiteAZ; the manual says not to change oil earlier than when the maintenance minder says to do so, about 15%. I'm at 6900miles and at 30%

The oil used to break in the vehicle is a different formula than the normal stuff if I’m not mistaken. Honda doesn’t recommend changing it out early. Follow the minder. Mine was done around 7k.

Only problem is I have a take home work vehicle and the CTR will only get driven on the weekends. No way I'm leaving the oil in that long.

I was like the OP, based on my past experience. I always got factory oil out as quickly as possible. So, I took my CTR to the dealer after break-in mileage with my Amsoil to have them do it. They pulled up the VIN and told me that Honda recommends NOT changing the factory oil until the reminder comes on due to break-in properties that the factory oil has. So, I waited until my reminder came on and they changed it with my Amsoil. Like the OP, mine is also not a daily driver, so it took about 8 months for the reminder to come on.

No way I'll wait that long. Most will be 90 days and the oil is coming out.

Edit: This was a little reactionary on my part. I will look at the owners manual and make a decision using this thread and the manual.

Well, if your engine blows the dealer will have a great case to deny your warranty claim. ‍♂

As always, you can lead a horse to water.

i changed mine at 2800 miles when the maintenance minder came on. This was maybe like 9-10 months into ownership.

it's not like this is a freshly rebuilt engine or some kind of race engine. Your thinking too hard. Just change it whenever you want.

Lighten up pal.
I'm chilling. However I've been around new built motors and rebuilt motors. Common knowledge with turbos are the bearings or bushings have an extremely hard life. They also burn oil down faster than a standard motor. I also know that Honda needs to have people doing late term service(after the warranty is up) and running motors down a little faster but not to fast is good for business. Dodge/FCA did this is 2009-2010 but actually used parts designed to fail after 3 years. They got caught and were forced to buyback quite a few Trucks because of it. Nothing is built to last forever anymore because it's bad for business. Running the same oil on a performance engine for 8 months is crazy to me. Even my GSX-R gets an oil change every six months max or right before I take it out for a hard weekend.

read you manual,

follow the MM or one year, whichever comes first
Will do. Maybe I'm "old school" and that's why I have a biased towards keeping my oil fresh.

Then why'd you ask?
