I'm not an oil nerd and do not have the education to understand most of what a chemist would try to explain to me. Beside breakdown due to heat, dirt, water, fuel and other contaminates can adversely affect the performance of the oil. I look at it this way: $100 oil change is much cheaper than a $$$$ or plus engine replacement. To each their own comfort level. I just don't trust marketing types to tell me when to change my oil as they have differing goals than I do. Oil sampling I agree(not necessarily Blackstone though).I encourage you to ask the folks at the Bob is the Oil Guy forum, who nerd out about oil more than we nerd out about Hondas.
I'd also encourage you to send some of your used oil into Blackstone Labs. A used oil analysis will empirically tell you whether you're changing too early and wasting money.
For what it's worth, I used to be like you and change at 3000 miles or 6 months in my S2000 that I drive about 2000 miles a year, so I was changing oil frequently. Blackstone recommended I leave it alone and follow the oil life system because there's nothing wrong with oil sitting in the car if it's not being driven.
