Esteemed board. Just checking to get your thoughts on what my dealership shared with me on the first service. I do all my own oil changes, and did my first on my LX at around 9600km. (5800 miles) Did the oil and filter - I asked the dealership what service I should ensure to do on my vehicle at the first check (6000mile) and shared I did the oil and filter change already. They said they recommended the Brake service which is apparantly 250.00 Canadian. It's basically a clean and adjust. This doesn't pass the smell test, but I am also a believer in maintaining the car. Has anyone else done this service on their first check? And would you recommend it? My car is a 2018 LX sedan, canadian model. It's ace and I hope to keep it a long time. Many thanks.

Dealer want you money. A car don't need a break check at 6,000 miles

I recommend wholeheartedly servicing brakes at 6000 miles and every 3000 miles thereafter. :headbang: Safety is a lifestyle.

Myself, I have a 10 year old 120,000 miles CRV which never had the brakes touched by anyone. Just saying. Your mileage may vary.

Are they including blinker fluid and paint protection? Jk

The only time you should visit the dealer is for a recall TSB situation. Find a trustworthy local mechanic shop around your area. Save all receipts and follow the recommended maintenance schedule.

There's no adjustment for the brakes, they're four calipers. I do mine once a year, I clean and grease the pads contact points. Very easy to do.
I also own a LX 2016
Agreed, and caliper slide pins. Once a year is about right.

At each 6K miles is not safety is making a $250 gift to the dealer

Of course. (I hope my sarcasm in the post above was recognized) Not every driver and not every car can achieve 125,000 miles and 10 + years service intervals, but the fact that it’s not extraordinary, puts things in perspective. With little driving in harsh salty winter slush, garage, and going easy on the brakes, servicing brakes every year or even two years is not necessary.

Sometimes I drive right behind several cars on a twisty and/or mountain road for half an hour or longer. While most people make a festival of brake lights constantly, I don’t touch the brake pedal almost at all, and still go at the same speed (paddles help a lot - constant clutching with a stick or shifting to L without paddles is a little more tiring). No wonder some drivers need new brake pads every 12,000 miles.

A brake service ( what is that ? And what dealer will really do ? ) do not worth $250.

There are some of us that say once a year and others saying up to 10 years. It all comes down to where we live and the conditions we are driving in. You can not go 2 years in snowy subzero climates without caliper pins seizing up. That's not to say your brakes won't still work but they definitely won't work optimally and this may lead to uneven pad wear and having to replace sooner than necessary.
Paying 250 for this however is a joke. Learn how to DIY this as it's not that hard to do. Dealerships are really a last resort option but a good one for those not willing to learn or with too much money in their wallet.
There are various brake lubes/ grease available but I tend to use most anything by Permatex.

cold climates will not cause pins to seize,

do you know or understand how hot your brakes get during braking?
Must be the salt they put on the roads around here then combined with the dirt and the slush for 5 months of the year.
