Nah, there's a fix, mines been up for well over a year now, no seeping around the edge or anything.Been forever since I checked in. So it's still an issue October 6, 2018? I still have a kite rod holding it up, don't notice it anymore. Was hoping a cool aftermarket design is available.
Just saw this for the first time. How did so much of the black get ripped off around the one clip?? Does your brake light leak through there now? I'd be peeved if that was mine.Follow Up on the 2018 Civic Si:
It was the tint guy's fault. There are two clips attached to the window. I did not know they existed and hadn't seen them in any previous photos. I've attached the photos myself for future reference. Basically, the tint guy didn't slide one of the clips back into the cover correctly. It was a 30 second fix once I figured it out.
I'm not sure what you mean. There is a rubber seal around the light that is air tight. I've had no problems at all.Just saw this for the first time. How did so much of the black get ripped off around the one clip?? Does your brake light leak through there now? I'd be peeved if that was mine.
The black shiny stuff on the window around the mount that has been ripped off and is now a rough gray material. Does the light leak through there from outside and behind the car?I'm not sure what you mean. There is a rubber seal around the light that is air tight. I've had no problems at all.
Kinda crazy to think that it’s been 3 years and Honda still hasn’t made a working fix yet. The issue is whatever material the cover is made of and/or the mechanism they use to hold the piece to the glass isn’t up to snuff. I bought a brand new cover from Honda and in like a year it had warped enough (very minor mind you) that it lets the brake light light bleed out at night again. I guess my consolation prize is that it doesn’t hang anymore but yeah, unless a third party has made a brake cover out of hard plastic like most other cars it seems like eventually we all will experience this issue. If your car has the new mounting system though the light bleed becomes less annoying with time (as in you get used to it) but if yours is flat out falling apart then you might have the old mounts in which case Honda will take em out and give you the new ones for free and they do help a lot. I don’t really understand why Honda has insisted on penny pinching here but it is what it isHi all,
I just bought a 2016 Civic Coupe and I noticed that the third brake light was hanging. After going through the thread and the CARFAX report I noticed that the "fix" was applied but it has failed again. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm looking for a permanent fix rather than just replacing the light (again) knowing it will fail (again)
Thanks for your reply, how do I differentiate if I have the "new" mounts. I believe the car must have had the fix done by the previous owner but I guess I will still call Honda and ask them about it. I don't have any tints on the car and I really don't mind going down the superglue path as well as long as this gets fixed for good.Kinda crazy to think that it’s been 3 years and Honda still hasn’t made a working fix yet. If memory serves me right the old mounts were made of a plastic Velcro type material while the new one uses metal hooks. I tried all types of glues before and eventually they would all fail though some here have had success so YMMV. The new mounts should alleviate the need for any glue though, it’s just the bottom part of the mount that faces towards the rear bumper that’ll eventually warp due to heat and let some light bleed out. It’s minor and I’ve learned to live with it, it’s a heck of a lot better than what us OG coupe owners had to deal with. Thanks for your reply, how do I differentiate if I have the "new" mounts. Update: Honda bluntly refused to change my third brake light because my car was out of warranty so I just took it back to the dealer I bought the car from and they stuck it back in place. It’s been almost 2 months now and it’s still in place. I guess we’ll only find out if it’ll hold on after summer. If memory serves me right the old mounts were made of a plastic Velcro type material while the new one uses metal hooks.
