Type R Maintenance Schedule

So forgive me if I missed it, but didn't see anything when searching.

By now many people hopefully like me are starting to see miles add up. I just crossed 20K not to long ago. Hating or should I say lack of trust in dealerships service people I have been doing my own maintenance at a friends shop. So far 2 oil changes when the maintenance light comes on. I have been looking as I want to make sure I don't need to do anything additional like transmission service, spark plugs, or anything like that. Is their an official "Type R Maintenance Schedule" anywhere that lays all this out? If not lets all come together and compile that for us and members in the future as a sticky to have one place to come to see what they should consider doing.

Thanks!

It's a starting point I suppose, but I would imagine being from auto zone it is pretty generic and doesn't directly apply. I could be wrong of course...

Yes I would be interested also in seeing the recommended minor and major service recommendations. I’m @21k miles so am in the same boat ;)

Brake pads and rotors definitely in the near future

Your manual has all the information you could ever want. You should try reading it sometime.

If you've lost it, a 15 second Google search got me this page with a PDF on it. You want the hatchback version.

https://owners.honda.com/vehicle-information/information/2019/Civic Type R/manuals
Couple things with that...

1. it isn't Type R specific or at least I didn't see one. The Type R is different from a standard hatchback. Hell the Type R is different from the Si... The Type R is in a league of its own performance wise and I would think it would need different maintenance at different times because of that, right? I don't understand why this isn't a bigger issue to everybody and only a select few people see it as an issue. Maybe the Honda people are just use to it and us new to Honda are the ones that see a differnece, I don't know... What I do know is I am used to Ford who gives each car a owners manual and a maintenance schedule breakdown for all maintenance items by time or miles for each car...

2. I can find a schedule anywhere specific to the Type R or really any Honda. It tells me to decode the letter and number and all that. I am new to Honda so I don't fully understand the letter/number system. When I went to reset the oil life the last time using the main screen it had other stuff listed out as well, but I don't see the other stuff being listed as needed yet in the manuals I have found or what you just posted.

Hoping as owners we can compile a list of mile/time in which we know or believe we should do as a maintenance schedule.

Thanks though for posting that link so people reading the thread can find it. Crazy they don't put printed copies in the cars anymore. I thought the dealer had kept mine as a souvenir until I read on here they don't come in the car and have to be ordered in first 6 months. haha

What all maintenance have you done so far other than oil/filter changes and tire rotations? Anything?

Here are some maintenance service items found on the Honda link provided by Ducky. That was a very useful link. Printed the owner’s manual and will have a bunch of stuff to learn about the car. I still don’t know all of the higher tech features,

Besides routine oil/filter changes and tire rotations:

1. Replaced the OEM transmission fluid with Amsoil Syncromesh.

2. Perform engine and under carriage inspections. Still learning about the car. Having an EZ-Car Lift makes it easy to raise the car. There are other good lift systems and methods raise the car also.

3. Replaced (2) OEM wheels with used OEMs purchased from locals. Bent rims and tire damage.

4. Pressure wash the car and brakes every 1-2 weeks.. before doing that, was having all kinds of rock and brake dust issues.

5. Just installed Radium’s Dual oil catch cans.

6. Tightened aftermarket exhaust slip joints. Had slight leakage.

7. Dealer replaced battery that had died.

8. Other than that just doing various mods here and there.

The hatchback manual contains specific information for the Type R wherever it differs from the 1.5L hatchback. Most of the information is the same for all versions of the hatch.

To your first post, Honda uses the maintanance minder instead of putting maintenance tables in the owners manual. The benefit is that you don't need to interpret "normal" and "harsh" driving conditions. It's all calculated by the computer which means some things are based on how you drive and some are probably just mileage. They also do this because 95% of vehicle owners probably never open the owners manual.
When a maintenance item pops up, take care of it. Simple as that. :)

You change the trans fluid because it was due for that or just wanted to replace with better fluid?

There are a number of threads and posts recommending switching out to Amsoil for better shifts.. so I followed their suggestion.

Was not due but changed it around 15k miles... I’m currently at 21k miles....

Do you know when the trans fluid is due?

I have some 2nd gear grind, but not enough to have them replicate it. Happens at odd times/mainly high rpm shifts and I know it isn't user error as I had my friend who is a mechanic and grew up racing cars drive the car and it happened to him a few times on the drive. I need to get it documented, but don't like the idea of a dealer tech ragging my car out to get it to do it... hmmm

Honda Civic 10th gen Type R Maintenance Schedule 1F2A0046-7177-4DFA-83AD-2332B5F50C5E
Unfortunately Honda Service is closed today so couldn’t ask. A google search says every 30-60k for MTs... however heavy use every 15k.

I’m going to replace every 15k.

To stay within warranty... you’ll probably need to stay with genuine Honda transmission fluid rather than Amsoil Synchromesh.
