So I recently had the liberty of driving a Nissan Sentra for a few days while my car was in the shop. It was a rental, looked new-ish.

You want to know why drivers of these cars and similar Toyota cars are slow af? Well let me tell you since I suffered from first hand experience.

  • When you try to drive fast you feel like you're going to die
  • The car likes to rock side to side, like you're in a boat
  • The steering is super weird, like there is a delay, it's on butter, and there is about 3 mm of turn that does not apply to the wheels?
  • It's slow with slow response all around
To be fair, the ride was comfortable. If I had to drive to say vegas, for 4 hours, I would prefer something like this than my stiff ride. I feel bad bashing it, but I have a little more patience for these drivers now.
This is a good point. The Carolla rental I had did not feel good over about 75 mph.

Lol a tan colored Toyota is the hallmark of a driver that doesn't give a single fuck. They bought their ugly tan Corolla/Camry/Sienna from their grandpa/uncle for $2000 and they do their best not to sink another penny into it. Last time it got an oil change, Bush was still in office. It has several dents that could easily be repaired, but nah, it's not worth the trouble to them. They don't look when crossing intersections or changing lanes because even that requires a certain amount of emotional investment in the car's well being which they do not possess. When they inevitably rear end you, don't expect an apology or single word of concern. They'll stay in their car, windows rolled up, and feign gestures at you like a fucking game of charades. When they finally buy a new car it will be a silver Nissan Sentra because the dealership had them heavily discounted because no one with an informed opinion on cars would ever buy them and it's a "nice" car compared to the Toyota they just totaled.
This made me laugh, because my 22 year old son's first car was a beige 2005 Camry he got from his Grandpa, but he took great care of the car. And 2 years ago, he traded it in for a brand new 2017 Nissan Sentra - YES, in silver! - which I thought was a very responsible purchase for his first new car. I was rooting for him to buy a Civic, but they had a screaming deal on a leftover '17 Sentra that he couldn't pass up. You literally wrote my son's story!! :D

Lmao! I never expected to be THAT accurate. I'm glad your son is the exception though! Good job raising a responsible car owner.

Boy, when I used to drive a 2004 Corolla I used to push that thing like it was a Type R lol. I was always going like over 90 on the highway, and idk why because any speed over 75 and the car starts shaking and the handling gets atrocious haha

It's less about brand and more about demographics in sales. The typical toyota driver wants a comfortable, affordable, reliable point A to point B car and nothing more. They don't care about performance, handling, anything beyond the most basic concepts of what a vehicle should be. So is it really surprising that they're pretty crap drivers as well? These, by and large, are the same people that just as soon give up driving because they don't see it as an enjoyable activity. But there are always exceptions. Many of my family have owned toyotas over the years, and none of them drove like blind 90 year olds afraid of their own shadow, but demographics definitely matter.

That said, honda has somewhat of a younger demographic, it's drivers tend to care about how their car performs and handles (more so than a toyota buyer).
Again there are always exceptions, old people love honda's too. But it's not difficult to suss out the various demographics of car brands if you drive daily in traffic.

My general observations:
-Toyota drivers are slow and at times, completely incompetent drivers (driving without headlights, distracted, half asleep, etc).
-Dodge drivers are a-holes that all think they drive a demon (even when they're just in a base trim dart) and will push themselves in and out of traffic because they think everyone wants to race them.
-Honda drivers tend to be more neutral, but often times can skew to race car fantasies and be a bit fast/reckless.
-Luxury car drivers (BMW, Cadillac, Audi, Jag, etc) think they own the road because they spent more money and are also the most satisfying to teach a lesson to when they try and take too many liberties in traffic.

I could go on, but just my general day to day observations and as i mentioned, there are always exceptions.

Well... that's why i said twice in my post, that there are always exceptions. There is no such thing as a hard rule in customer demographics. My mother, sister and cousins had Toyotas too, they weren't slow drivers (they all drive Hondas now though). In fact i've seen a small shift with the intro of the newly redesigned Camry of some toyota drivers being a bit more bold on the road. But the typical majority of Toyota drivers I do encounter on the daily are either going 10 under the speed limit, driving in the dark/rain without headlights on, or are too busy fussing with something other than the steering wheel to be bothered with driving the car.

Tell us how you really feel OP, always good to let your feelings out. No need to show it on the road, there's enough road ragers and one less helps. Entertaining post though.

Maybe it's just my area but every damn Corolla that sees my car wants to race. I guess they want to see how their box of mediocre compares to the gold standard.:drive:
