When the breaks start to make scraping noise just take the break cover and try separating it a little from the disc and you will never have anymore problems i did and don't have problems anymore the other problems here , personally haven't had any i don't track mine

1. Watch out for potholes
2. Get some mudflaps
3. Get it tuned and use Hondata traction control
4. Get prepared to visit the gas station a lot lol, tank is tiny
5. Lots of break squeal in the cold

Hey guys! First post ever here! I definitely am new to being on a forum and new to owning not just 1 but 2 Type R civics! Super excited. Have had 2 SI civics but traded them in this weekend for Type R civics for the fun of it. What should I expect being a new Type R owner?!
Others have already filled you in on a bit: paint (don't even look at it funny), pot holes (haven't had too many issues with this in the Chicagoland area, even during the winter), small gas tank. One new comment I will make is that if you're a little harder on your brakes (> 150-200PSI, about 2 "bars" on the in-dash gauge), it should almost never squeal ;)

To add on the break squeal issue, bed your brakes. Even in cold weather, my stock brakes barely squeal. Coat your wheels, there is a lot of brake dust from the stock brakes and this will make cleaning your wheels a lot easier, I would suggest coating the whole car as well but that not everyone is willing to make that investment.

Congrats on your new R!

Nice car - you're going to learn all the potholes, construction zones and expansion joints in your area. The car can take a lot more than people give it credit for, but I still like to baby it.

Also, good luck with the attention this thing gets - I hope it's all positive for you, but knowing how backwards car culture can be and some of the garbage I've experienced...

Also any other girl CTR owners?!
MEEEEE lol Hello! Expect rubber neckers for a bit hehe. This car GOES. Even in Comfort mode this thing hauls it. Like another said before about tire pressure in cooler weather, you at least won't have to worry about snow in your area. Premium gas! With sunny CA I'd suggest window tinting, and for foggy days I enjoy the Lamin-X yellow tint; super easy to apply. You'll be addicted to driving it. I use mine as a daily and there was never a moment I didn't enjoy it even if I was sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Congrats and welcome!

AWWWW MAN. Jeez I am seriously jealous! Congratulations on the CTR's you are going to be in so much fun and going to be very popular lol. I personally don't have one but I have the Civic Sport hatch and I am humbly happy with it. My brother in law just bought a CTR and is patiently waiting for its delivery. He was going for CW but fell in love with Sonic Grey. Going to drive him to the dealers this Friday to get his "baby" lol. Can't wait!

Hi Cassy,

Welcome! Congratulations on the Type R, you picked the right color with Championships White. I assume you’re familiar with the history behind it. What color did your boyfriend get?

You’re going to hate the wheel/tire combo in the streets. Potholes, and uneven pavement such as when you cross bridges is going to be brutal.

You will love everything else.

I recommend getting XPEL Ultimate Plus on the bumper, headlights, fog lights, mirrors, at a minimum. I also had the hood done.

Be careful lifting and dropping the car for oil changes, there’s very low clearance and you don’t want the tranny to land on the jack. Get a low profile jack, and always use jackstands for safety, etc.

I would recommend only using Honda’s Genuine Full Synthetic Ultimate 0W-20 Oil and genuine filter. People like to get too fancy with this stuff and in my opinion it is not necessary when you’re using the factory stuff.

My last Honda, bought new was a 2006 Si that lasted me 320,000 miles without issues before I sold it and it’s still rolling. I followed the same maintenance formula described above.

The car is fast, and you won’t feel the speed. It will make you feel safe and make it seem as if you’re safer than you truly are. Don’t die or kill others in it, enjoy the car!

I recommend these floor mats, they’re amazing.

You’re gonna get a lot of attention, especially from the younger crowd. Avoid the drag racers, don’t let them drag you. Enjoy the car at your terms!
