This is what I can tell is so far missing.., looks like the thief cracked the wires connecting the airbag too while he was stealing it. I know I have to get the airbag replaced, but is it important to get that door lock thing replaced too? I'm thinking of buying a door handle cap on eBay and just putting that on there to save money.

Also a dealer quoted me 2k to fix the wires, replace the airbag and the door lock thing, does it really cost this much??

No only have liability but not full coverage
Ouch....

Dealership will charge that much. Call local body shops for a free estimate and ask for separate estimates using OEM vs new Aftermarket or used junkyard pull parts.

Most of us carry comprehensive auto insurance coverage with a deductible significantly lower than the cost of that fix.

Maybe consider getting a quote or two for better coverage from other insurance providers.

I really don't have any real expertise here...

But certainly the dealership will always have the highest price. I doubt they will 'fix' the wiring so much as replace the wiring harness. New ones are pricey. Same for airbags. And it wouldn't surprise me if there was some legal/liability concerns with the airbags. So they may have to use only new stuff. And it will have the usual crazy stealership markup.

I'd look for an indy mechanic/garage that specializes in Honda stuff. So far as I know, airbags should be plug and play. But there may some computer reset/pairing thing that has to happen. Plus... it's airbags. I'd almost rather do without than drive around wondering if the repair was done correctly.

Good luck with it all. Sorry it happened to ya'.

From the pictures provided it you'll most likely need a new driver's side door lock cylinder and it would need to be re-code to your current key. Can't tell if the third connector (horn) is damaged or not but if it is you'll need a sub harness at the steering wheel and an airbag.

The SRS/airbag light would need to be reset once the repair has been performed.

This. Unless you have so much money that a couple of thousand dollars for a repair is nothing, you really want to have full coverage on a vehicle with this much value. Even then, you'd probably still want full coverage. If it's too expensive, it may be worth considering a less expensive vehicle. While a $2,000 repair is going to suck, imagine if something dumb happened while you were behind the wheel and you were suddenly faced with a $10,000 repair, or having the whole vehicle totaled out at $15,000+?

Just trying to help.

Yeah, even when I had no money, and a crappy Cavalier, I sprung for fire/theft. Couldn’t afford Collision, though!

Bummer.. Airbag no doubt sold to a "chop shop" or is listed on ebay! Bummer about the lack of insurance. I thinks the lesson is now learned. While the dealer is expensive, you can be assured that they would use OEM equipment. Might try going to an independent repair shop or a body shop for additional estimates.

As others have mentioned... any auto body shop will be proficient in replacing airbags... deploy vs ripped out shouldn't matter. As to the wiring... that may be more rare... but they should still be proficient in auto electrical repair.

As to the lock... I've replaced the entire handle assembly that the lock cylinder is integral to on most cars. Ours may be somewhat different... but I kind of don't think so. You should be able to order the parts and do it as a DITY... and get the key cut for the new lock. Parts-wise and to get the key matched to the lock cylinder would probably be a good thing to call your local Honda Parts department and chat up the person working the counter. From there... you'll have to decide whether or not you'd still do fine to order the parts online for a bit less and be able to get the key/cylinder matched up. That's one I just don't know. When I replaced the handles... it was because the handle broke, and was just swapping lock cylinders. You just have to pull the door trim off and remove it from inside the door and it all comes out as an assembly, from my experience.

I assume the lock cylinder being gone was how they opened the car door? Interesting. While it really sucks... since you're having to pay out-of-pocket for repairs... it's kind of a good thing that they didn't damage the door itself from what it looks like. There's an off chance you might be able to get this part from a car bring parted out with someone willing to part w/the lock cylinder and their key. Just make sure you the key # for it... or the VIN... something... because the #s that make up your car and assign the replacement key for it if you were to ever need to get a replacement through Honda would no longer be correct.

As to you being screwed? If this is the worst thing that happens to you... you're doing good. This is small potatoes compared to some shit life will undoubtedly have in store for you... as it does for us all.

Having your roof collapse in on your house or something rather catastrophic like that is proper screwed. $2k is just speed bump in the road of life.

But yes. FULL coverage or you can't afford it. An in-law of mine made a rather brilliant comment that fits here. They own a proper boat in the lake country north of Toronto and pay for all of the associated things that are annual for it. I was flabbergasted when he told me the costs but he just looked at me and said "If you have to worry about taking care of the boat, you can't afford the boat".

I say leave it there a few more nights and catch the fuckers. When they touch your car, blow their brains out accross the civic. Good memories.
