Hi all. Got my Remus exhaust with the sound controller, front pipe and carbon tips last week, and just had them put on a couple days ago. Since then, I feel like the sound has changed for the worse, and I’m hoping that some folks here might have some ideas as to what the cause may be. To be clear, this is a used exhaust, so it should already be broken in. It was inspected during install and there was zero blemishes.

Day 1: immediately after install, I took it for a spin. I didn’t have the tips or the sound controller installed yet, but the valve was about 25% open. It sounded deep and throaty on hard acceleration, even at high RPM’s. There was a concerning amount of drone at certain RPM’s, but it sounded good when accelerating.

Day 2: installed the tips and sound controller. The drone disappeared at all RPM’s with the tips on, and the exhaust sounded amazing. It was a bit more muted compared to with the tips off, but it had a rolling R quality to the sound at all valve openings. I loved it.

Day 3: Did a bunch of driving today, and I could swear that it now sounds far more “buzzy” and raspy at all RPM’s above 2K. Not sure what changed, but I definitely do not like this sound. I don’t hear any rattling or anything like that, so I’m not sure if it’s being caused by a connector that’s loosened.

Has anyone else experienced this with an aftermarket exhaust?

Once the exhaust warms up, it can start to have different sounds. The velocity is higher around the front pipe when warm, and this additional air speed and change in exhaust back pressure pulses have a tendency to cause exhaust vibrations and drone, on every exhaust. Including stock.

This is where I think a lot of exhaust manufacturers miss the boat. For the driver that has warmed up his/her exhaust after driving 45 minutes to an hour.

I also think that if you have a high flow cat or gone cat less all bets are off. That is going to cause all kinds of different sounds.

That is very odd. Tips really shouldn't change the sound of the exhaust at all.

Are you still stock Downpipe?

It sounds like it could be an issue with the function of the Sound Control, have you checked all of the connections?

I would also look over the entire system, it may be something as small as a bolt/nut backing off a tad and causing a small exhaust leak.

If you have any more questions feel free to PM me, I will do whatever I can to help you figure it out!

Thanks all. I am still on the factory downpipe, but I do have the Remus front pipe. It still sounds amazing at very low RPM's when I'm just tapping the gas. Once I start driving though, it now sounds exactly like a 1990's era Civic fart can muffler - 4K and above is almost intolerable. The sound controller is definitely doing something - the "blue" setting is much quieter than the "red" (fully open) setting. That said, even the blue setting buzzes at higher RPM's. It's terrible.

I'll have to see if I can get under the car again one of these days to check things over.

At around 3500-5k rpm there is a airplane kinda noise. I have catless downpipe though. I'll take a video later.. by the way this is with valve wide open. I didn't buy the sound controller

heres a little pull I did earlier. It's not the same as in person but When its sounding raspy in the video, its really sounding more loud and hollow I guess. I like the exhaust, but there is a couple spots in the upper rpm range where it looses its tone and sounds hollow besides that not terrible drone.

The Remus is very raspy in sound. That's normal for it. You can check out Micheal Baxter's laps around Laguna seca. He has one, I hate the sound personally.

Any weather difference between the days? Any exhausts I have in the past, when it's dry and cooler outside, it sounds much better than when it's hot and humid. Could be the air density that affects that wavelengths of the sound I don't know.

Without the controller, the flap in the Remus exhaust doesn't stay in the same position so when you set it to 25% on day 1, it doesn't stay at 25%. I would visually check the valve and see if it works like it should when pressing on the controller.

I can vouch for this.

The sound changes from me every so often. I think a number of factors (weather, carbon build up, etc.) play a factor. Some days 100% open sounds great and some days it doesnt sound as good.

I've noticed that it starts out low and growly at low RPM's, with a rolling R sound. Then, at 4K RPM, it switched and becomes this boomy, droney sound that reverberates through the cabin. I don't recall hearing this initially, so maybe something is vibrating or leaking?

Mine changes as well at around 4K rpms. Sounds like it's letting out a loud, sustained belch at that point! I find this effect to be much more tame when I set the valve position to 30% or less.

I think that it may be growing on me a little. Mostly I just love the sound between 1-2K RPM. I wish that the entire rev range had that same rolling growl.

Agreed. I find it sounds best when you're blipping the throttle at slow speeds (e.g. creeping into a parking space) or between shifts when you get all the gurgles.

I have the Remus exhaust as well, however I put a PRL catted downpipe on it and it changed a lot, it got louder but more throaty, still have stock front pipe for now. It does get super loud at abou 4000 rpm though with the downpipe.
