That is nuts because I feel like the boxer rumble in an STI is about the nicest a 4 cylinder car will ever sound. I actually find it even crazier someone from the Honda community will find a sound from another 4 banger platform intolerable considering how Honda's have sounded over the years but different strokes for different folks we all like different things at the end of the day.
I had a 07 wrx for 11 years and the 2.5 is lazy, laggy, and old. The 2.0 dit is much better. But I'd still take the current sti over the current wrx. Back to back the diffs in the sti make a big difference in the driving experience if turns are what you're after.I have a 2015 wrx and for the life of me can't possibly figure out what you dislike about the gearbox. I think its great personally. Also, if you're not happy with your wrx for gods sake dont get a STi- everything you dont like about the wrx is as bad or worse in the STi.
I honestly can't believe they even sell any when you can get a wrx for much cheaper, WAY better gas mileage, and when you start tuning the DIT motor easily matches that of the STi and seems a hell of a lot more reliable!
I just traded in a 19 STI for my 19 Si sedan. I drove a CTR a few times this summer, that's it. I also had another VA STI right before it.I might just do that - the rattles are a big part of my frustration wtih my current car and I really felt that from what I read it wasn't so much an issue with the CTR as it's a newer platform than the WRX/STI. I've read a lot of people report decibel ratings of 74-76 db at 60-70 MPH cruise - the other day in my WRX I hit 89 db so I feel that even if there may still be *some* rattles the noise is surely less.
