Weird thing happened today. 2019 Si Coupe with 3300 miles - backing into a parking place, when I took the car out of reverse and put it into 1st gear, the parking brake set all by itself with the engine still running. Sport Mode on, Hill hold on. First time ever. Anyone else ever see this?

Doing anything with your seatbelt at the same time? That's the only thing I could think...

Man, I know almost every new car has an electronic e-brake nowadays, but I still wish my Si had a classic manual handbrake. It may be obsolete, but hell, so aren't manual transmissions anyways? ;)

Hmmm personally for me sometimes the car turns on the e brake by its self when I shut off the engine. Only happens sometimes, not sure what I do to make it happen.

Do you leave the transmission in gear when you park? Just a theory.

It's setup to do engage the e. brake automatically, when the brake hold is on, and you shut off the engine, and remove your seatbelt, or some sequence of events like that...

I envision some series of events where I stop at a light, realize I'm too far into the intersection, back up, stop, put it into 1st gear, light turns green, and I'm trying to accelerate with the parking brake engaged. No bueno.

If it's through the scenario I spelled out above, and you still have your seatbelt on, I'm pretty sure the e. brake will turn itself off as you start to move.

The other day I parked my car in the driveway in gear, with parking brake on. Came out about an hour later and the car had appeared to have rolled backwards about 10ft almost into the street. The car was still in gear and everything. It was locked and also I have it auto lock after a certain amount of time when the fob is not detected. No clue how that happened. Lol did my e-brake magically disengage?

Was it sitting on a sheet of ice with kids pushing it? Did a truck drag it? That's the only way I can think of if it's parked in gear.

If it's like my car, the manual doesn't hold the car when in gear, it'll roll in gear if it's a slight incline, unlike any manual I've owned before. And the parking brake often doesn't engage on the first press, no matter what you do. So you probably pulled the switch, thought it was engaged but it didn't. That's why they added the light to the parking switch for 2020. (hopefully they also fixed the issue of the switch not working the first time).

After several rolling incidents, one that would have totalled my car if I didn't catch it in time, I've gotten used to listening for the brake engaging.

Parking a 10th gen manual in gear does nothing, try it on a hill and you'll see.
Oh god I never realized this, not that I don't set my e brake but now I'm worried if mine ever fails my car is going to roll. Now I have something else to keep me up at night to worry about my new car lol.

I always watch for the little "brake" light to illuminate on the dash before I turn off the car. if you pull the little button too quick it doesn't register sometimes.
