Although occasionally wonky, Apple CarPlay has worked consistently for me since I bought my car. This morning however, it has suddenly stopped working. I plug in my phone after the car is running like I normally do, I see a brief I can change on the smart phone button to show Apple CarPlay is about to start and then it immediately goes back to smart phone. I’ve done a factory reset of the head unit and tried every combination of settings that I can find it but I am unable to get the head unit to work with my phone.

Anyone else experiencing issues? It’s strange because there’s been no updates to my phone between yesterday and today so I don’t understand what could possibly have changed to make it stop working.

I have no idea if there is any updated software available for the head unit, so I do plan to check in with the dealer on that soon.

I have had all kinds of issues with CarPlay from day 1 of taking ownership of my 2016 Touring. But lately, and especially with the public betas and now release of iOS 13, things have been pretty solid. Still have an issue here and there but nowhere near the level I had maybe even a year ago where things were unusable.

Have not run into the issue(s) that you described however. I assume you have restarted your iPhone as well during your troubleshooting process. And while I found it never really helped with the issues I have had, perhaps it would be worth re-pairing your iPhone to your car if you have not tried that. And maybe try a different cable too?

If find any issues with CarPlay are typically solved with unplugging the iPhone for a while (a simple unplug-replug doesn’t work). There’s definitely a bug where either system needs a minute to check itself before it’s ready to make the handshake again.

It’s rare, but every once in a while...

Reboot your phone and the head. Usually fixes it.

Also I’ve noticed with the latest iOS update having the Bluetooth paired seems to help it be more stable. No idea why.

Did both a few times, no dice. Have tired with Bluetooth paired and not paired, on and off and also no dice. Going to try and new cable next.

Have you tried remove your car from carplay and reconnect it? It happened to me a few times with my 2016 Civic. Always fixed with new lightning cable or remove car from carplay.

Go to setting in your phone, general > carplay > remove your car. Reconnect and see if it come up. Highly recommend use a new cable when doing it.

I have had a lot of issue with this as well. I was literally still sitting in the dealership lot and it would connect to my phone but Amazon Music would not pull up. I have had many issues where ill hit the next button on the steering wheel, the dashboard will show the next arrow screen, but the main display will still be on the same song and it will not actually change the song. I had to disconnect my phone and then reconnect it to get it to work right. I will say that since i have updated my iPhone to the latest iOS version it has helped some but i still have issues every once in awhile.

My update - for some weird reason my VPN app was the bug in the process. I disabled that, everything worked fine. I deleted that app and reinstalled and got it set properly, and all is well now. Very weird!

Apple CarPlay is notoriously fussy about the type and quality/state of cable you use

Yesterday I couldn't get Carplay to work on the way to work. That evening on my commute I had to soft/reset/reboot the radio 3 times (at red lights) to finally get Carplay to work. I also powered off and back on my iPhone on iOS 13. I've had slight errors with Carplay but never anything of this magnitude.
What a CF. The radio would either say "can't find USB device", or it would show "Carplay" as an option and when I pressed it the radio screen went blank and the entire radio went squirrely. Not a good feeling.

Not sure if people are still having an Apple play connectivity issue but I did today, and following the steps in this video helped! I didn’t have to change my cable or anything else.

Well, you could try the following 6 ways to fix apple carplay not working.
1. Check whether everything is carplay-compatible.
2. Check siri.
3. Make sure the carplay is unrestricted.
4. Restart the system.
5. Forget the car and set up again.
6. Use the iOS repair tools such as TunesKit iOS System Recovery without data loss.
Please Check out How to Fix iPhone CarPlay Not Working to get more details.
