So I am bringing this thread back because I did some testing with the browser. What I did is to run the whitelistservice.apk from the browser to get everything working while in motion.

It did work. No reason for hondahack or cables if you just need to bypass the ebrake. You just do the process and then the browser and gallery work while the vehicle is moving. So I can have youtube and netflix via the browser, not an app.

I do however have a question. While I was on www.google.com, I signed in using my Google account. A message popped up saying that I am using an old browser version and that for security reasons I should update. So I pressed the update button. I was then shown 2 files, which were marked as Linux update files. The file types were different, I cannot recall the types. One was something like .dpb

So I downloaded one of the two. When I tried to install it, I got a message saying that the file cannot be installed. Mind you that I had deactivated the whitelistservice.apk cause I read that if its enabled, you cant install anything.
After reinstalling the whitelistservice.apk, I went back online in the browser BUT I never got the update button back.

So the question is, if anyone knows, how do I update the browser on the car? I tried all the onscreen buttons like settings and stuff but found no "update" option. I want to do the update, cause when I visit certain webpages that have embedded players (for live tv), the browser doesnt run them. I thought that an update might solve this. I do not watch netflix or youtube while driving, it is just that I happen to miss F1 races when driving home from work and just want to have a glance at those. So I would really love it if I could run the player on the car screen instead of just listening to it on the cellphone.

In my case, the browser was not hidden in the menus. Thanks in advance!

No need to post in 2 threads about it. As far as whitelistservice.apk goes, you're still not going to be able to install anything without Honda Hack or the original method for installing apps. (Pulling the white list file, adding the app information to it for the app you want to install, and then hen pushing it back to the car)

Just a reminder that it is illegal in many US states to watch video while in forward motion on public roads.

Wrote in both posts as they are in different forums (10th gen general and audio-nav etc) and not all people read all forums. At least I did my search and did not start a new thread as many do. Thank you for the heads up anyway. Regarding the matter at hand, one would assume that updating an existing app would be possible without hondahack, especially since the message popped up without having the hack. I just cannot replicate it. I will attempt to install the latest chrome .apk although I guess it wont work without hondahack. I will try it out however.

Just a reminder that it is both illegal to watch movies while in motion on public roads and making such a modification violates the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard if the driver can see the screen.
Noted. I do not live in the USA although I suppose the law is similar in Europe.

Because the android version is so old and it's not actually linked to the Google play store, any apk you download is going to have a different key than what's stock on the phone and isn't just an update to the existing apk that's already installed. You can install chrome without honda hack using the old method of installing apps buts it's not near as user friendly.

Edit: adding link to the original method for installing an app onto our headunit.

Edit 2: This method still requires you to root the headunit, it just doesn't give you all the added features that Honda Hack has and also may not work on anything after year model 2017.

I see. I just downloaded the latest chrome .apk and will attempt to install. I will see how it runs. I dont mind if it is not user friendly, as I will run it like once or twice a year. I do not browse while driving. I dont see why anyone would.

It was most like a .deb, which is an installer for Debian-based Linux distros.

Indeed. As @carrsteven pointed out, I cannot install it since the HU is not rooted. Same thing for any .apk, the "install" option is not lit although the HU sees the .apk. Guess only way is hondahack for a new browser. Thanks anyway guys
