Yeah the manufacturers know where their strengths and weaknesses are. Honda still builds the best sedans who those who want them.

And keep in mind, the Civic isn't just one or two models. There's a Civic in many different shapes, prices and performance abilities. A dealer could literally open a small, separate dealership and call it something like the "The Civic Center" and probably do very well.

IMO American car manufacturers gave up on cars way too fast.
Ford apparently made a big mistake by not launching the new Focus in US, which just hands over all the market share of their compact cars. Focus and Fiesta are also the two entry enthusiastic cars which could bring in loyal customers and now the whole market is handed over to Honda (with Mazda also pulling out with the semi-premium route).
Chevy also shy away from their familiar car market to fight in the bloody SUV battleground with a bunch of vaguely positioned products like the new Blazer.
And it's not like Honda and Toyota don't have good SUV poducts and there's a void in the SUV market so I really struggle to understand why Ford and Chevy abandon the whole market.
Plus the fact that the oil price could rise at any moment, so why completely axed your economic lineups? It's just weird.

Read an interesting take on who exactly determines what cars are sold in the U.S. from Road & Track. Makes me wonder who is really at fault for the increase in SUVs and the decrease in small/sporty options; the manufacturers, the dealers, or the consumers? We can't buy a car if a dealer doesn't order it, and dealers can't order cars if the manufacturers stopped making them. It's definitely circular, but I don't think the consumers can be blamed 100% for the increase in bulky, raised, and generic eyesores.

The funny thing is, some people don't even need a suv but still got it.
Oh absolutely. I see this a lot where I live. It's the middle of a city, and I know people who buy SUVs and huge trucks but never use them for their intended purposes. Just getting back and forth to work. IMO it's a terrible investment as gas prices are sure to keep rising and electric cars to keep gaining traction.

Really glad Honda stuck to their guns and did not give up on the sedan. It paid off in the end!

The focus sales only dropped cuz they jacked up the transmission and fusion sales only plummeted cuz they never released a new version. I wanted a fusion but they wouldn’t update so now I drive a civic

Wow, finally someone points this out. Anyone who's familiar with the options available in Europe knows it's US dealers that are screwing us out of choice, and they can do it cause we are sheep.

There's a whole world out there outside NA, where small cars dominate. Fuel is expensive in most markets. Ford and GM play in those markets under various brands. They're just playing their chips in NA and target high, short term profit. Fuel is cheap in NA, and income high in comparison to other regions.

Period of oil glut will end one day... and they will then retool for smaller vehicles... their own, just adopted from other markets.... or go all electric. Methinks.

Now if they can only make some Acura cars that are appealing
I mean they've started doing a better job with the new ILX and TLX but the real issue is they're still on the old platform. i 100% would have got an ilx on a 10th gen platform over my civic.
