You're right. I should go back to USC. I have the reading comprehension of a 14 yo. Better yet, I should ask for a full refund on my education.

You "suggested" posting pictures to prove to skeptics, like you did to prove what you paid. You also did breakdown what dealer fees are....re-read what you wrote but in a different tone.

I cannot believe people get this emotional about purchase price because it differs from what they paid for the same or lower model. Just because a dealer offers customer A $30k doesn't mean they can't turn around and offer customer B $24k. You get my point.
Perhaps you should ask for that refund on your education because you are making some terrible and illogical connections.

First problem with your logical reasoning is that you are under the assumption that I am skeptical about your price. To which I am not. I already congratulated you on your great deal in a previous post before this all began and had no problems with it.

It seems like you really did fail to re-read my statement.

Secondly, I was explaining why some people *which is not me* could have issues with the price you stated you were able to purchase for thus I explained why some people could have issues.

Thirdly, I said that I posted a picture to prove my purchase and price to ensure that those that were skeptical about my price would have no room to say anything. And nowhere in that statement does it say to you I told you to post yours to prove to other people nor did I say that I did not believe your price.

In regards to your constant need to address the "emotional" factor. Stop projecting. Only one feeling "emotional" about this is yourself.

xjoshusax89, you're right in all points - you win. With that said, this is a car. I'm not running for POTUS refusing to show my past years tax returns. Also, please note, I had no idea you congratulated me on my price in a previous thread or post.

My father is on with James Ellis now asking for that refund ;-)

I believe this forum is about helping each other to get the best price. We appreciate your sharing the price that you paid and other details about the dealership and sales person. However you know in your heart that the price you paid is very aggressive and probably most of the forum readers will find it very hard to get a deal like that even with the same dealer and salesman. Therefor just telling the price and not sharing the details of break up is like boasting and teasing other readers on the forum who are really looking forward to get the details from you so that they can use that information in their negotiations. It is up to you if you want to share that information or not, but just going around and around on the price you paid and not sharing details is only going to make other readers feel bad either about the price they already paid or frustrated as they are not getting the key information from you which they can use in their negotiations. Anyway, like you said, it is just only a car, and probably you paid a couple thousand less than what others could possibly ever negotiate even after knowing the breakup, so all this is just material. But what is at stake is the relationship and honesty and unity of the users in this forum, as we all believe that we are united against the pushy and aggressive salesman and help each other to get the best deal.

I worked with another dealer RSM Honda, got frustrated with their antics. Few weeks later I called around to several dealers. No luck. I very reluctantly looked at NR Honda website (I had a horrendous exp. with Fladaboe VW and even though NR purchased Fladaboe a few years ago I vowed never to set foot over there again). Anyway, they had exactly what I wanted, Cosmo EX-T. I emailed "today's pricing" told them no accessories. Called my parents with the price. They told me to go in and see what they would give me for my car and not to take anything less than $3k - they offered $3k trade in. Called my parents. My mother called sales manager directly. I was looking at the car during this time. Came back went into finance signed endless paperwork, left with the car came back the next morning with a cashiers check paid for the car. That's exactly how it went down. I was in and out in less than 90 minutes if that. It was quick and fast. I'm not sure what else you want to know. My parents bought the car (they are out of state). I just signed the paperwork. Apparently, this isn't at all unusual in California. Where I'm from no way a dealer would let you walk out with a new car without paying or setting up financing, granted they did have my $3k trade in. Believe it or not that exactly how the deal happened. I detest the car buying experience, I'm fortunate to have a shark of a mother. i was going to get the car in Utah but it was surprisingly more even with the slightly lower tax rate.

Oh the OTD price you are saying is including trade in?

This is why Im not a big fan of pricing models in the US. Sure, you guys have the benefit if getting cars for significantly less than MSRP but considering 3-4k off seems to be the norm once you eat into holdbacks and all that, MSRP is totally meaningless lol

Like you guys are getting an EXT for 20-22k OTD like what? Youd be paying at least $26,5 in AB with 5% tax and 28 in ON with 13% tax lol

Hmmmm.....:hmm:

Anyway, I'm not sure why people are so high strung right now in this thread. Carry on.

LOL yeah I'm sure. I just had my dad look at the long "finance" contract I felt like I was signing my life away too, which seemed odd because I paid cash for the car. I wasn't there to dick around with them and think I made myself clear in my initial email to the dealer - I was very straightforward. I'm not sure if the fact we paid cash for the car (parents don't believe in interest/financing - I'm lucky), if that had anything to do with it. I told then absolutely NO added dealer accessories, like KARR Alarm, 3M protective stripping, etc (RSM tried to sell me this crap and told me they didn't have a car without it. Another dealer lost my business because they were pushing wheel locks on me and said ALL cars have them I'm out of luck). They knew I meant business, but was also nice about it. Sales guy was awesome. Finance manager was a dick. I think he was annoyed I refused their "extras" and almost walked out of his office at one point - he tried to tack on $250 for some etching security code BS. Who knows, maybe there was some sales contest and I was the buyer who helped him win. Maybe the Sales Manager was in a good mood that day, maybe they just made a calculation error and it was too late to correct it. All I know is I got a very VERY good deal.
Tell them $22k and it's sold. We told them if they took my 07 Beetle at trade in of $3k the deal was done (I was getting trade in anywhere from $1.5-2k). So they will work with you they want to sell their cars.
They told me to go in and see what they would give me for my car and not to take anything less than $3k - they offered $3k trade in.
Your OTD price was arrived at after deducting the trade-in value of the 07 Beetle and ergo the lower price. Hence it can't be compared to the OTD price of buying a car without any trade-in. It is like comparing apples to oranges.

$28k for a civic, crazy! But if a certain presumptive nominee is actually elected, I'll be paying those prices too because I'll be moving to Canada

Thanks for sharing that key information about trade in. As another member said, with trade ins it is difficult to compare the deals/quotes without trade ins. I believe you still have got the best deal, but before it was unbelievable and now with this key information you have lent credibility. Thanks again. Now I can go and talk to Cooper and know that he is genuinely going to give me a good deal. I've to wait though for him to come back from vacation, which I believe he was forced to take as dealership couldn't afford selling at those prices.

Man things got heated real quick. Glad I was stuck in calculus class all morning so I didn't have to watch this unfold .

They actually gave me $3,250 for my trade in. Odd amount. I told them I couldn't take anything lower than $3.3 hoping for $3k. My father just looked at the contract and it says trade in $3,250. I was told $3k (I should look at what I'm signing). Anyway looks like there were some mistakes on their end in my benefit. They also forgot to have me sign the arbitration clause, oops. If you do end up buying a car from them I can't stress enough do not have Sam as your finance manager. My entire experience with Norm Reeves was great other than him. I also have a friend whose civic hybrid battery went dead in the middle of the intersection and couldn't even be put into neutral to move, she said NR had amazing service, so hopefully my overall experience will continue. BTW, Brad Mugg is the father of Cooper Mugg. He sits in some big corner office not sure what Brad does but someone, maybe it was you tried to get in contact with Cooper and recieved an email from Brad. I happened to go into the dealer later that morning to drop off the title to my bug and asked about Brad....just FYI. Cooper is a nice young kid probably in his early 20's. Not pushy or stereotypical sleazy car salesman at all. I think they are just super high volume and can afford to make a good deal here or there. I tried with RSM and even Rock Honda all the way in Fontana. Trust me I was surprised I got a deal in Irvine of all places I live in Laguna Beach but I know pretty much anything in South OC/949 has a significant mark up. (Tint in Santa Ana $200 exact same tint - brand etc in Laguna Niguel $395...WTF). Honestly I wasn't even going to get a new car until end of July or August I was trying to hold
out as long as possible. I didn't even consider a Civic until my landlords son best friend showed up in one and I was completely taken back by the new body style. I was going to get a Prius. I'm not a car person at all, but the new Civic is pretty damn nice. I am concerned with the cloth interior wear. I hate the fabric on the console. I didn't get sensing because the technology is just too new and I think in 5 years cars will be virtually driving themselves (not really but you know what I mean) Anyway, it all came together too perfectly. Good Luck I hope Cooper extends the same deal! Fingers crossed! Have a good one!

Oh my, you didn't pay 20.4k OTD for EX-T, it is just IMPOSSIBLE, the dealer would take a huge loss, so NO WAY! You did, however, paid 23.4K because you gave them trade worth 3k. Your EX-T OTD price was 23.4K. OTD is not just the amount of cash you gave them, it is what you paid total for the car + TTL and your trade in value is included in that total price. Amazes me sometimes how people fail to realize obvious things and get defensive when others very politely try to explain it to them.
Your OTD was 23.4k, end of story. And not a crazy good deal, btw

KyraMorgan, thanks for clarifying your deal. I feel that if anyone buying a car feels good with their deal (financing, lease, trade-in, cash) then that's fine. Somebody somewhere is gonna get a better deal and someone else is gonna get a less than ideal deal. I'm happy with paying 23476.76 cash for my Cosmic Blue EX-T w/Honda Sensing, with no trade-in, after 2012.01 in sales tax and 365.75 in fees on the 21099 ePrice.

Perhaps a better option for all of us is to just put out the price of the car plus destination charge and plus other fees and not include sales tax since that is so variable for city to city or state to state or province to province.

And, people, don't pay for, if at all possible, the "dealer-installed accessories" you don't want that somehow quickly shows up on the car.

Unless you need a car ASAP, it's worth taking the time to research and inquire from a bunch of dealers. I live in the SF Bay Area but purchased the car in Stockton. I had feelers out in San Luis Obispo and Cerritos.

Good luck to all you buyers.
