47 now with an 18 year old in a 2019 FK7 too. He is blessed to have that and is way young to be in a FK8. His goal was a R by 22, it will likely get passed on to him.
For me, the type R was more of a want than need because it’s my second car. What I like about the type R is that it allows me to enjoy driving a manual, performance and mod it and still leave me room for other priorities in life. My next car will be a Tesla, whether I have to trade in the R or not, it depends on what make sense for me financially. I have considered the M3 also, but it’s also about 3x more than the type R, and modding it will be expensive as well. For the price of the M3, that’s like half of the downpayment for a mortgage where I live.
Plan on keeping it for now. I just bought it about a month ago. It's the best car I've ever purchased brand new. The future of the TypeR will dictate whether I keep it or not. If Honda comes out with something drastically better, I may consider trading it in. That will depend.
I haven't even made my first car payment yet, but I will try to pay it off early.
As much as I love my Type R, I could see myself going back to driving my putt putt 95 Accord and letting my oldest son drive the fun car when he’s old enough to drive..
Then again, that could be an accident or a ticket waiting to happen so maybe not, lol

I plan on keeping mine for another 4.5-5 years, and then I'll evaluate my options based on what the auto industry looks like at that time. I'd be super interested in an all-electric Honda performance variant.
As much as I love my FK8, if you've seen any of my recent posts recently, you know that financially it's stupid for me to continue to hold onto it when I don't even have a place of my own yet. So it's likely I'll get rid of it and focus on being able to get to that point, and maybe when I'm older and more mature I'll be able to return. Not 100% decided yet though.
Mine is paid for and I am going to try and keep it for a very long time. If money gets tight I can always garage it for a season if need be. This car has some sentimental value and its something my family and I really enjoy
