2017 SI stock with 61,000 mi Engine Failure!

Should I simply accept their offer to cover cost at 90% with 30K warrenty?

I smell troll
You know I read this again, and it does seem to be very schizophrenic. So unless he and his gf are alternating posting, you may be right

That...or some bad Salmon. Either way, that odor is tough to get out of the kitchen.

Wow guys, yes it was sarcasm.

But I am done trying to get anything more closer to what I think is fair. So I agreed to the service.

Here is what I agreed to:

1. Replace the engine ( at least the majority of it)
2. Cost of $900
3. 12,000 mi warrenty

Thats it.

Here is a summary of my argument to the dealer:

1. Oil change done at dealer, as always was.
2. Less than 5 minutes of driving a noise was detected.
3. Less than 10 miles of driving the engine failed with a notice sayng the engine was experiencing issues.
4. My fiance brought it in expecting to be told what the issue was and the repair done to correct the issue.
5. Anone who takes a vehicle for a service and the engine fails right after is going to argue the mechanic is the cause.
6. Because my fiance gave fiath that honda would treat her right, she accidently gave up our ability to have the car examined first hand.
7. I claim the dealers mechanic is at fault, but with no proof.

In Honda/Dealers defense:

1. The dealer/honda did kindly offer repair with a cost of 10% of the repiars outside of warrenty with no proof that the dealer was at fault

My complaint with Honda America:

1. I was happy with the offer knowing the facts were up in the air, I just wanted garentee that this would not happen again, in the form of a better warranty.
2. They did not communicate, the just give decisions.
3. The avenues they extend their customers are severely limited.
4. I was just out of warrenty with my miles being highway. I also had the extended warrenty for like 35k. This is a good faith appeal.

My reasoning for conceding:

1. After the warrenty milleage was reduced, it was obvious they had no intention of hearing out my appeals further. Its not like I am not ungrateful for their offer, its sensible on their part but I just hated the way my concerns were so easily ignored.
2. It is not a total loss. They did offer some compensation in terms of the repair. Its some give and some take.
3. Any further action would be to costly in terms of legal fees and my time.
4. Despite my sarcasm of the last post, honestly I think I just didnt want to end up on the losing side, but I reflected that I likely wont do better. So my pride had a part in this.

I dont really know what the dealers perspective is. I dont know whether what they say is truth or lies. They say the fought for me, maybe they did, maybe they didnt.

All I know is I am not totally screwed, what they offered was reasonable, and I have a family and employer that needs my attention more than my car does.

So I am done. Sorry for the theatrics, the sarcasm and frustration was fueled by long days, jetlag, worry, and personal emotions with my moms accident. Now that it is more or less done, I am coming from a clearer place of mind.

I will give you updates when I get the car back.

Cheers.

Thanks for the update but one thing you wrote seems hard to fathom/cryptic...

Huh? How do you "accidentally" give up the ability to have the car examined first hand?

One more note, here were my reasons for making this post to begin with:

1. In case others had similar issues with their car, I wanted to discover potential underlying issues.
2. In case Honda was going to screw me over I wanted to see if we could unite as owners to tell honda we deserve better.

In the end I just have a 12 page post of nothing but stupid drama and good intentions. I ended up no better, actually worse. I wasted alot of time chasing the wrong thoughts.

But for other owners out there, I just hope you dont experience this issue.

My advice, do your oil changes yourself or get the extended warrenty ( and dont cancel it like me). I doubt it was faulty to the engineering of the car. Though, tme will be the only thing that can speak of the 1.5L turbo engines reliability, not me.

Replace accidently with unknowingly. She was trusting.

A better thing to have done would be to have taken the car to a 3rd party dealer that is trusted and have them diagnose it.

Now if I would have tried after we gave honda the car, the car would have been altered since they drained the oil etc, and if I dray the car out of there they may further reduce their offer. I mean its speculation on my part, but the risk is high and the reward is not much better.

Thats my logic anyway.

I mean, in hind sight, going to a third party would have been the best option to really find out what went wrong.

But I mean most everyone I know was suprised that I had to pay anything at all. The responses from this post show the same consensus. So maybe I would have done the same as her.

Again its not like i got roayally screwed, it just shocked us when we were expected to pay anything at all. Thats when I had to think about well, from the dealers perspective they dont know that I did not do the damage myself and they want to blame me. I had not thought that far and did not expect to play that kind of game. Neither did she.

If this is (likely) related to the oil change/dealer, there will be physical evidence of the oil having leaked out- meaning there will be oil splash all over the undercarriage, slung rearward.

Unless the block was ventilated or they can produce a failed mechanical component, there will be evidence somewhere.

I highly doubt a dealer would be able to clean up a mess so thoroughly (and if they did, the cleaning would also be evident), that it would be masked.
I respect your thoughts, but I dont see the benefits outweighing the costs and risks.

Thanks for supporting me though.

Hmm.....
I'm not sure about buying into this story.

Just my .02 cents
Dude, I could put that 2 cents towards the $900 if you are willing to depart.
