LOL yeah I'm sure. I just had my dad look at the long "finance" contract I felt like I was signing my life away too, which seemed odd because I paid cash for the car. I wasn't there to dick around with them and think I made myself clear in my initial email to the dealer - I was very straightforward. I'm not sure if the fact we paid cash for the car (parents don't believe in interest/financing - I'm lucky), if that had anything to do with it. I told then absolutely NO added dealer accessories, like KARR Alarm, 3M protective stripping, etc (RSM tried to sell me this crap and told me they didn't have a car without it. Another dealer lost my business because they were pushing wheel locks on me and said ALL cars have them I'm out of luck). They knew I meant business, but was also nice about it. Sales guy was awesome. Finance manager was a dick. I think he was annoyed I refused their "extras" and almost walked out of his office at one point - he tried to tack on $250 for some etching security code BS. Who knows, maybe there was some sales contest and I was the buyer who helped him win. Maybe the Sales Manager was in a good mood that day, maybe they just made a calculation error and it was too late to correct it. All I know is I got a very VERY good deal.
Wow thats an insane good price. Good job!

Thats insane. I would've got that (im assuming its a sedan) over my LXP Coupe without a second thought even though I think the coupe looks nicer.
Congrats!

*I got my LX P for 20.5k OTD*

Since you're in California too, how long did it take to get your plates. I'm going to Utah for 6 weeks in August and UHP loves to pull people over, I will be an obvious target no temp plates in CA and 20% tint front and back. :-/
the subaru forester i bought in March i would say we got our plates in just less than 4 weeks

How in the world did you get an EX-T for 20.4k OTD? You sure thats OTD? Or car price?

Because with CA tax that means your EX-T car price was under 18.8k.
Kyra, you sure 20.4 is otd for an ex-t? That sounds like the before tax price. I just got an ex quote from norm reeves honda for 19.4 before tax. And their ex-t quote was 20.5 before tax. That doesn't sound correct that they sold you an ex-t for about 18.5 before tax including destination fee

Hmmm yeah....I paid cash so yeah, I know exactly what I paid to the penny.

I paid "cash", so yeah, I know exactly what I paid, to the penny. I'd take a pic of the contract but I already sent all the documents to my parents. Anyway, not sure why this is so questionable. My mom negotiated my fathers limited edition 4 runner $1200 BELOW invoice, not MSRP, invoice - what the dealer paid.

Thanks Kyra for your response. Questionable because I have like 15 quotes right now including dealers in the boonies like riverside and they aren't even close to 18.5 for an ex, let alone an ex-t. Norm reeves irvine is usually one of the most expensive dealers.

18.5 would be 3,000 under Invoice which is pretty unheard of. Invoice, not msrp, for an ex-t is around 21.6. Super hard to believe. Your father's car at 1200 under invoice, believable. 3000 under Invoice is difficult to believe.

How did you deal with them to get down to this price? What did they start at and what tactics did you take? Were there special rebates like college grad, military, trade in discounts? Also, when did you buy your car, wondering if it had anything to do with memorial weekend or any other special event.

The reason why people have a hard time because people often post the price of the car without really understanding what OTD really means.

OTD means car price + destination + title, tax, plates, registration, processing fees, document fees, dealer fees, any other state fees you need to be such as environmental, tire fees and so forth. Dealer invoice on an EX-T is 20.6k. That is not including tax, title, registration, etc... So you are saying you paid OTD less than dealer invoice in a state with a tax as high was 9+% which seems crazy good. Furthermore you paid it in cash without doing any financing or other rebates.

Now if this had some sort of trade-in involved or purchasing of extra accessories or warranty or protection it might make sense. But baring all those factors it makes it crazy hard to believe.

Not to say the deal you got is impossible but its a deal that is crazy hard to replicate unless lots of very specific circumstances arise. In this case having picture proof of final purchase agreement is best way to prove the skeptics. To which I did for my EX.

Hey, who was your salesman? I have been thinking about buying a new civic, Performance Honda is on my list since they have 0% for 72 months special...I am between dayton and Cinci, so they are about 35 miles from me... I would love to get a deal like that along with the 0%

Edit: Performance Kings Honda emailed me $19,462.00 + Tax,Title,License & Accessories, so good price, but can't use 0%, to get 0%, have to do MSRP, so not going to go that route!
My salesperson was josh

Uh wow this is getting a little beyond strange. Proof, breaking down what OTD means.....really?? I'm 45 not 14. Nor is this the first car I've aggressively purchased. It's bizarre you people seem to have such issues and borderline animosity with what I paid. Yeah I got a killer deal. Clearly, my family knows how to negotiate the purchase of a new car in our favor. i don't know what else to tell you not do I really have anything else to add to the purchase of my car. Do your research. Best o

It's a car, that's it. A piece of metal to get you from point A to B, which is why I don't get caught up in the OC bullshit of owning a BMW or Mercedes - it's so materialistic here...half the people can't even afford what they drive. No one should ever be gouged and you can always figure out a way to pay below invoice, ALWAYS. Here's something shocking my sister was able to negotiate down her new Tesla, even I was taken back. And no one should never take out financing if at all possible (but everyone has different financial circumstances - I'm not here to judge. I realize I'm fortunate). I don't know what else to tell you nor do I really have anything else to add regarding purchase of my car. Do your research. Best of luck.

Damn, Civic people have some serious passion for these cars. It's like the Scientology of cars....cult like.

Odd how you completely misunderstood my point, I think you should go back and re-read it instead of skimming it. I was actually on your side. I did not say I did not believe your price nor did I ask you to post a picture of the agreement. I don't understand how you take my statements to be of "borderline animosity".

Now the following would be an example of something closer to your sentiment that you reflect a bit of "hostility" such as "Wow 44 years old and has the reading comprehension level of a 14 year old".

If you got an extraordinary deal, it would be very nice of you to share the break down and let all other civic fans to save money and save time. I think that is what this forum or this thread for.

You're right. I should go back to USC. I have the reading comprehension of a 14 yo. Better yet, I should ask for a full refund on my education.

You "suggested" posting pictures to prove to skeptics, like you did to prove what you paid. You also did breakdown what dealer fees are....re-read what you wrote but in a different tone.

I cannot believe people get this emotional about purchase price because it differs from what they paid for the same or lower model. Just because a dealer offers customer A $30k doesn't mean they can't turn around and offer customer B $24k. You get my point.
