Hi,
I am new here. I just got the basic model of the Honda Civic LX and see that the guidelines for it don't move with the steering wheel. What is the best solution to get the dynamic guidelines? Any suggestions appreciated, thanks!

Buy a higher trim level. The LX does not have dynamic guidelines for the backup camera.

You are right. My LX doesn’t have dynamic guidelines but my girlfriends EX does. Never realized that

A bit late as the car is already bought. Are there no aftermarket ways to upgrade it?

From what I heard its because the 5" screen doesn't support it. would not mind upgrading the radio but I am wondering if that would actually work and if its the best way.

As of right now, no. The only aftermarket way I'm aware of to get dynamic guidelines is through a Gyroscope in a camera. It doesn't work all that well in my experience, but I've only had one customer return it because it sucked. There's a harness called the Maestro RR2 I talk about that should be able to read steering wheel position through a data line that in the future should allow for a dynamic guidelines but I haven't heard of any radios that'd support that yet.

The 7" Audio Unit connects to the Car's System Bus, so I assume that is where it gets it's data from for both On Screen Diagnostics, as well as specific functions, like reading the steering wheel position fro dynamic guidelines.

If the 5" Unit does not connect to the System Bus, then that Bus connection may be missing in the Harness in the lower trim car, so the Bus will not be connected to an upgraded 7" unit, but that BUS wiring should be possible to add.

CANH and CANL are usually at the OBD2 as well nowadays.

CANH & CANL are a twisted pair, and runs in multiple places in the dashboard harness.
Should not be difficult to splice into them.

I would strongly advise not to mess with the OBD2 port (for so many liability reasons !!)

I'm well aware. I work in 12v. Either way, it's only bad to modify the obd2 when it interferes with original function. Many of the remote starts I install require us to get data lines from the OBD2 and its completely fine (whether it be splicing or an obd2 t-harness). It's only ill advised for somebody who doesn't know what they're doing or if they're remove pins from it preventing original function.

Alright y'all. I looked it up.

So what scopesys was saying is that retrofitting the Touchscreen radio may net you dynamic guidelines, but may require running some wires if they're not present. That's one possible way.

Now going back to my usual business. It appears that for some vehicles the Maestro RR harness does allow for retention of Dynamic guidelines. See my photo here under advanced camera features:
Honda Civic 10th gen Civic LX Backup Camera Guidelines? 20190924_142403

This harness is only for aftermarket radios that support Maestro harnesses which start at around 300. Keep in mind, the features for the RR2 harness/firmware that'll be compatible with our cars whenever it does release aren't fully detailed but it's hard to imagine they wouldn't give us that. Also, I don't know if that feature will work on the base civics easily and may require getting some wires like noted earlier just for the base models. The RR harness is also expensive and also not everyone likes aftermarket radios (I'm talking kenwood, pioneer etc. Not those factory look plug-n-play ones from weird companies). So this is just purely me talking.

Exactly ;)-- so when a car owner go for Emission testing, and has messed with the OBD2 port (and they do not know what you are doing), and then it blows up the Emission Testing OBD2 device, they will be in significant "Trouble" :bonk:

The likelihood of that happening is about as low as the likelihood of somebody not comfortable with car electronics doing anything to the OBDII port. Pretty sure the OBDII port is fused and it would prevent a short from reaching the device. Also, if they were stupid enough to switch the ground and constant pins on the
OBDII they shouldn't have a license.
