I'll probably pick up some blue loctite to be safe (it's now recommended for the screws in the cover).

You have to undo the screws to fit the filter anyways, you should have tightened them down,

The bolts came off completely. I only have 2 bolts left and found one stuck in the engine bay below. I’m sure I tightened them down pretty good. There’s not much torque you can apply to the hex bolts because you’ll end up rounding them out.

I had to take mine off today in prep for a trans oil change, replacement silicone intake hose, and of course inspection of the intake.

I reported a few posts back that I had a rattle type of sound. Well found that a screw was missing.

All my other screws were there, but the lid screws were loose again. Even after some loctite, though may not have applied enough. Oh and I put some on the rubber piece which seats the intake, cause I DROPPED IT down the engine bay... ugh

I will say that I had to bust out my torque wrench too because I saw that the install directions stated 24 inch pounds for the lid screws. Could have sworn that wasn’t there when I installed mine...
My wrench starts at 25 inch pounds...

Anyways I swear the plastic is acting like a crush washer too. I can go tighter and tighter but eventually after maybe taking it off for cleaning another 3-5 times the screws might be done for along with the plastic.

Also think you have to really screw these in tight with some torque. Mine wasn’t any where near as bad as some of you. Especially in the back where your screwing into a metal bracket. You guys should be able to torque it much more. Work those wrists y’all ;-)

I truly believe that this side lid design could be better. I think that a hinge or lid on the TOP of the air box would have been more ideal. One that could be clamped down similar to oem clamps but nicer, surrounded by rubber to give way. It would be big enough to remove the filter more easily, get rid of the plastic lid, and get rid of most any screws that would go loose. It also would add material weight and shift the harmonics ever so slightly.

For some reason the plastic material either is resonating close to its natural frequency, causing the screws to be loose more so than not or just vibrating (find it hard to believe as there are two rubber mounts and silicone on the other side. It might actually be more of a sound chamber than other intakes because of the design of the maf housing and material in general. To me this is more plausible and a leading cause of the screws backing out.

Just my 2 cents...

I do love the intake, it’s the best sounding one. It’s just high maintenance.

I meant to ask if I can remove the bolts so I can open the cover when it's time to replace or re-oil the filter. The worst part is when you're trying to remove these bolts, you end up rounding out.

I think a washer would help securing these bolts or get stronger bolts so you can torque it a little more like the one I'm listed above. There are options at the hardware store. I just listed it there as an example.

The washers are a good idea to distribute the load and absolutely us consumers should look into stronger bolts.

I think we have to remove the lid in order to clean the filter, I don’t think it can be taken out otherwise.

Don't forget it takes about 24 hours for blue thread lock to cure.

You'll have to remove the entire air box then the lid.

Installed my replacement hose yesterday. Definitely fits a lot better than my first one.

I went to Home Depot and picked up some M5-0.8x10mm bolts, washer and blue Loctite yesterday. Definitely get more torque with the Philips head, and with the washer, I could feel the resistance when removing the bolts. Not aesthetically pleasing as the other bolts, but I'm confident these will stay on.

Awesome news. I had a decent sized gap on the side that connects to the turbo inlet pipe after installing last night. I'm thinking that maybe I received a leftover from the first batch with the original silicone tube, because my kit also came with the limited edition clutch reservoir sock (which was awesome!). PRL was great about sending out a replacement tube no questions asked, so hopefully the new tube's fitment is equal to yours.

Good to know. I have the same issue. I purchase it new from another member
